The problem has bee solved, for now. I had someone help me remove the fuel filter and replace it. I know how to do it but didn't have the strength (or tool) to unscrew it. It a had a little trash in the clear cup. The inside of the filter appeared moderately dirty, but not dark. Replaced it. The tiny O-ring was not there. He installed and it's driving normally.
I will be getting the O-ring pack for this and taking care of that myself. Have been bush hogging and doing dirt work with no surging. When the time comes, I'm going to have the dealership remove the fuel tank and take out the screen that fell in.

For now, problem is solved.

Good to hear and what a relief when problems like this get solved. We've all been through it.

I’ve had this issue since new 2014. Problem came and went. Finally found mahindra mechanic who knew it right away. Apparently the fuel idle celenoids are factory lemons and often need replacement. Had one replaced about two years ago and ran great for a while, but I didn’t use tractor for almost 2 years until today and after 30-50 minutes same problem. He said there are two of these, one for starting (always starts easily) and one for throttle. He also said they failed when tractor is little used. I’m assuming the replacement has suffered the same failure and plan to replace myself. I looked up part and it’s around $40.

Interestingly, they refused to honor any warranty of the replaced part. I’m assuming that is because they know the item is defective and fails frequently!!

I’m stuck with this lemon as I’m poor and living on SS, but I’m finding increasingly common reports that Mahindra quality has fallen drastically in the past few years. I’m guessing it’s because of planned obsolescence like this!!

See my other post. I’ve replaced all filters repeatedly. Due to the nature of this failure it always seems to run great for a while or I believe until the chassis around it gets hot. Problem is much worse in summer, but I always seem to have a short time that tractor seems to function normally. (Until it gets warm). Good luck, I hope yours stays fixed!

Jacoberp, I was wondering what tractor you have. I have a MAX28, I just filled the gas and was moving dirt, when all of a sudden there was no power. I ordered and replaced the fuel filter, being it looked pretty dark. The tractor would idle rough and when applying some throttle wouldn't make it above 2grand. Something it causing it to lose fuel. My tank filter had fallen in the tank years ago, but hasn't been a problem. The tractor is due for some serious maintenance, being it has 660 hours and I last had it serviced at 500 hours. Have you ever had to add a fuel additive to clean the injectors?

I knocked the fuel screen in the tank shortly after I got the tractor and thought it wouldn't hurt anything being in there. Well evidently it laid over the fuel pick up and the engine wouldn't run above idle.
Ended up removing the tank and fishing it out.

Same symptoms started yesterday. Won't run above idle if at all. Changed fuel and air filters. Didn't fix it.

I've over filled the tank in the past and discovered that there is a sponge in the fuel tank lid and when it gets soaked, a vacuum is created in the tank and the tractor also won't run above idle.

I checked something today that I should have checked 1st thing last night.
The filter bowl as the tractor is running.

That was the symptom whether it was the strainer inside the tank laying over the fuel pick up or the soaked sponge in the fuel tank cap.....

The bowl runs out of fuel.

Just turning the key on today drained the bowl.
As the tractor was running at idle, the bowl drained and refilled slowly.
Pic is of tractor at idle

So where is this screen in the tank?????

Pulled the line that goes into the the bowl and the flow was weak.
Blew low pressure air into that line back to the tank til I heard bubbles.
Huge flow out of feed line now!!!

Tractor runs Great!!!
Temporary fix
Just blew debris away from the screen in the tank.

Where is the screen?
