Thankfully I had the depth of the saw adjusted to a shallow enough depth. Otherwise this would have ended very differently. I think a trip to HF for a table saw is in my future before finishing up this project next weekend. Although their cost seems to be similar to that of something I can get at Lowes etc. Better warranty through the big box store.

I bought a really heavy duty table saw from Sears when I was in my early 20's, when I still lived at home with my folks. We used it on projects at my parents' house, then I took it with me when I got married, and used it in remodeling our first home. Then it moved with us to our current home and helped with remodeling that. Nowaday, for the most part, it sits in my garage collecting dust and other projects. But when I do use it, well, I have never regretted that purchase. It'll last me a lifetime.

If I were to buy one today, I'd probably look at a bench-top model to save room in the garage, as this one takes up probably 9-10 square feet of floor space at the legs, and 15 feet of floor space at the table height.

For that matter, my dad built his house using a circular saw that was bolted upside down to a portable table that was made for that purpose. I think Sears, but maybe black and decker. This was the mid-late 50's. I have the table still somewhere in my garages. You'd lock the saw in the ON position and use the power cord as the on-off switch!

I think my saw was a sears and had the flexible cable which broke and I think my friend says it was either not worth replacing or no longer available. Hah, stupid saw!

First table saw I bought was a "Sears Best" and after a few years the trunnion bearings were shot. It never was a great saw...

I sold it cheeeep and bought a Delta "Contractors saw"... It was pretty good but it never stayed in tune as good as I thought it should so after a number of years I sold it too.

Then I moved up to a REAL life time saw, the one all others are compared to and copied my many...the "Delta Unisaw"... It's been amazing and in fact, so amazing I now have two of them along with a Huss...

I bought that first Unisaw new in about 1983 and it's worked perfectly since day one, and still does! I haven't had to "tune it up" even one time over all those years... I love the thing!!

Funny thing with any power equipment...read all the manuals, watch all the shows, take all the classes...for some reason it takes blood to tell you what not to do. If you are smart, you'll learn to respect this stuff. I have the scars to prove it. Job-site table saws (portable/folding) are not that expensive in the whole vast scheme of things. Remember eye protection. And get some push sticks.

LOL, you are lucky, I still am looking for mine! (and it is a big one)
Today I started the process of an annual clean up of the shop.
WOW, you'd not believe what I am finding.
LOL, I may need to have a trash container brought in just to haul the rejects away.

About 2 years ago I actually touched every item in my garage and put my hands on every wall stud on every wall..... before I put it all back in!

Yeah I am looking at the portable saws with the folding legs. Cost around $150/200. I bet the visit to the urgent care for the tetanus shot will end up costing at least that much. So likely a good wedding anniversary present from the wife to me. The push sticks will be quite important :)
