Circular saw and my finger

Because everyone knows that knowing how to do something safely and actually doing it that way every time for a lifetime is exactly the same thing.

Do you wear chainsaw chaps? If so, is it because you don't KNOW how to use a chainsaw safely? How about PTO guards? Because you don't KNOW how to use your implements safely? Maybe you fold down your ROPS because, obviously, you KNOW how to drive your tractor without tipping it over!

Honestly, Rob, I'm surprised at your attitude. As someone who makes a living doing dangerous things, I would think you would have a different attitude regarding engineered safety features on dangerous tools.

Maybe it's best to be safe AND knowledgeable.
Well lets see...

I have 3 table saws in use, never cut my self.

I took the rops off one of my tractors to get under limbs easier, also took it off my newer GH, never rolled any tractor, not even close. I have many more that never had a rops.

I don't think I have shields on the pto's of anything that's used regularly, BUT I NEVER get near them. NEVER even had ANY body part even get close to getting caught up in a pto shaft!

I guess I grew up at a time when you were still taught to be SAFE and think for YOUR SELF. BEFORE the Gov had to wipe yer but because all common sense was lost!!

AND YES, I'm the only one who runs the above described equipment...

The world is a dangerous place, learn to use some common sense when you are in it!!

Have seen the Saw Stop at several home and garden shows. I'm told that they tried to license the technology to the big saw manufacturers but couldn't reach a deal. So they started to make their own table saws. They are a bit more expensive but there is no doubt in my mind I would get one if in the market for a table saw.

I know how to use an electrical outlet pretty well but I'm still glad I have the GFCI around the pool and bathtub.
They even went so far as to try to get the Gov to pass a law that EVERY saw had to have it, AND that meant buying it from them!

I suppose you support that idea too??

Personally, I'm glad they failed to get that through!

I remember that.

The Bosch Reaxx was another 10" table saw that would shut it's self down. I thought Bosch had a better idea because it wouldn't ruin the blade when it stopped and you get a second try after a 1 minute repair flipping the canister/plunger around.

Saw Stop took Bosch to court and got them to stop selling theirs.

No I don't. I would be willing to pay the extra amount to have the saw stop technology as I see it as much cheaper than losing body parts and missing work. I don't care what others choose to do.

I wear a seat belt and would do so even if the government didn't mandate it. I also wear a helmet on a motorcycle. Not because I am a reckless driver or don't know how to operate a vehicle. I do it because it is a minor inconvenience that could save me from serious injury whether by my own fault or someone else's.

It makes sense to take those precautions when you can and accept the risks you can't do anything about.

You (naturally) failed to address my point. I am 50 years old and have used various power saws for 40 of those years and tractors for 38 of those years. I have also spent my entire adult life working in an industrial/power plant environment. I have been on one safety committee or another for over 10 years. So, it's entirely possible that I know a thing or two about safety, as do others besides you.

As Atchuu said, lots of people would wear seat belts and helmets without government mandates, a red herring that you toss out to cover your lack of logic, I am among those who want the government to stay out of my business as do most of us here.

So, I will ask you directly, Sawyer Rob. Have you ever been injured doing something you know how to do properly due to fatigue, repetitive performance, failure to consider all unknowns during your task of any other reason not related to your knowledge of the situation or tool operation? If so, congratulations; you really are as great as you believe yourself to be.

I hope you aren't responsible for teaching any young people about safety. "Just use yer common sense and you'll be fine!" Sounds like a ticket for an early grave.

aaaaaw, do you think throwing out your little rude digs helps your argument any??? lol

I do wear a helmet/jacket/gloves ect.. when I ride my bike... Why? because I have NO control over "others" when riding! (YOU do wear a jacket, full lengths pants and gloves when riding too, don't you??)

AND yes I do wear my seat belt, as there's another case, where I can't control "others", actions...

Yes, of course I've been injured, but not by a pto or table saw or tipping over a tractor... Those are tools I'm around or use that I CAN control the outcome. If YOU can't see the difference between all of those tools you mention, then I agree, you DO need the Gov controlling all that YOU do!

My wife is in the medical field, like she says, "common sense isn't so common these days", she see's it every day at work...

I have had a Grizzly 10 inch table saw with a cast iron bed and the upgraded fence for many many years. Yes it is likely made in China, but is sure has been a good one. Absolutely no trouble, and so far , no blood out of me. :) It wasn't cheap and it sure as heck wasn't light for me and the wife to wrassle out of the pickup and into the shop, be we got it done. We were much younger then. :) Have it on a mobile base, so I can roll it around some now.
