Circular saw and my finger

/ Circular saw and my finger #11
So I was ripping down a 2x4 to approx 2x2. Managed to get my right middle finger in the way under the board.

Thankfully it only nicked my finger tip. Trip to the urgent care. No stitches but a tetanus shot was needed.

Thankfully didn稚 self amputate. Be careful with your power tools.

Yes I realize a circular saw is not the 途ight tool but I don稚 have a table saw.

You were ripping a 2x4 with a circular saw??!!?? I'm hoping it's obvious to you now that buying a cheap table saw would be cheaper than having your finger reattached.

Thank God you're going to be OK.

Nothing wrong with ripping a 2x4 with a circle saw, you DO have to do it in the right way to do it safely.....and I do have a few table saws including two Unisaws...

Anyway, this happened a few years ago with a Dewalt cordless circle saw,

That's what getting in a hurry and not paying attention get's you...

It was nothing that keeping it clean and taped up didn't cure...

Yeah it hurt like a Mc when it happened. Looked down and saw the whole finger was there. It will be a good story.

That is exactly what I meant when I said I know a circ saw is not the right tool.....

aaaah, I wasn't ripping a 2x4...

To rip a 2x4 I clamp one end of the 2x4 to something solid and use two hands on the saw. Flip the 2x4 end for end as needed...

IF YOU can't get it done "safely" that way, then you shouldn't even own a circle saw!

You can adjust the saw depth of cut on most I've seen. My contractor friend does it that way and uses the width guide also. He adjusts it so it barely cuts through. His trade school instructor said if done properly you would barely nick a finger if at all. As Rob said, hands on saw!

Them pesky middle fingers are just to darn long. If they aren't getting cut, they get smashed. Someone ought to do something about it. Me, my son, my old Deere salesman and a couple from work, have all chopped the end off of the left one.
