Is Rock and Roll dead. Part 2.

...While we're throwing out names and evoking Dylan, you can't forget about The Band. I still listen to them frequently. ...
I've seen Dylan several times but far and away the best was Jan. 19 1974 in Miami..."The 74 Tour" with 'The Band'...(still have the ticket stub)
The music was absolutely perfect...Levon Helm and Robbie Robertson were actually crying...Ive seen a lot of bands live but that night was something special...

I've mentioned a 'band' on TBN a few times called Post Modern Jukebox (PMJ)... Scott Bradley will take various 'today's music' and arrange them in past styles. On You-tube.

Anywhere from 1920's ragtime, 1930's jazz, Swing, 50's doo-wop and on; up to 70's Motown. Different artists fronting the ensemble.

I've seen them in concert twice and will again this September.

Highly recommended!

I saw that. Never been a big fan of Slash but it sounds like his heart is in the right place. I'll certainly give it a listen.

Let Slash play and Myles sing...

Here's a concert in Sydney so you don't have to rent the music. ;)

My music tastes are all over the place. Classic rock, country, alternative, whatever. If it makes me want to sing along I like it. I have mechless radios in everything so I have copied all my CDs to MP3 and run 30+ gigs on each radio. My library is 64 gigs so my music doesn't rotate as often as most radio stations.

Was listening to a mix of The Struts as you suggested and these guys popped up.

Interesting post, thanks for starting it. I dialed them up on youtube, and it turns out that I have heard some of their stuff. I find myself listening to the radio less and less; considering the large catalog of music available, listening to the same songs over and over gets rather stale. Unfortunately a true underground rock station where new bands would get air play is a thing of the past; even the Sirius "Underground Rock" station is more of the same old, same old.
JMHO but the last good country song was "The Highwayman", by a few of the old-time greats. I was riding with a coworker who had the local "country station" on, and it sounds just like lollipop rock.

Here's a couple more newer bands that are pretty good;

U2's The Joshua tree was the first album to have been voted (in polls) above the Beatles White album.

Having said that my rock and roll epicenter is the 1970's primarily Led Zep, the Stones, etc. Also prog rock like Rush and Yes and Pink Floyd. But, I've never been content with just listening to the 'oldies'.
Try Opeth or Dream Theater, they are reminiscent of those old prog bands of yesteryear only harder, more like prog metal.

So rock is dead. I think we'd all agree.

Rock is merely not mainstream anymore so dont expect to be spoonfed by the medias but it will always be around
