Is Rock and Roll dead. Part 2.

Young people were pretty happy back in the 50's and 60's and it showed in the music they were writing, things started to change in the 70's when the price of energy started rising and people's paychecks stopped going up for the working class folks. Buy the time we got into the 90's the kids from working class families were getting pissed and it showed in the music. Most of the new music I here today is nothing special and most of it sounds similar to whatever is popular at the time, nothing special. On the bright side I'm saving money because I haven't felt the need to buy an album in years.

Saw a good "straight ahead rock-n-roll" band warm up Gov't Mule (also a great rock-n-roll ban) a few months back.
Warm up was called: Black Stone Cherry.

Yep, Greta Van Fleet. Hopefully they can put together an album when this tour is over. They are very talented and all are 21 and under. 3 brothers and a drummer.

I've been waiting on the next Tool album to drop. IMO they are the best rock band still going, they just take forever to mix their recordings.

I really liked "grunge", they killed hair metal, I wasn't a fan lol

I've got 14,000+ songs on Google music that I stream in my vehicles and at home (earbuds as well) Much of it is live bootlegs, I have a ton more saved on discs in the FLAC format. I really need to add to my Google file.

Gov't Mule is still going, give them a try.

IMO when it comes to legendary rock icons...Led Zeplin is somewhat overrated...(Just ask Ian Anderson)...!

Admitted (WTIC) that 'Stairway to Heaven' is the most popular single R&R track...I'll take 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' any day...

I like to imagine what ifs...like what if Duane Allman had not been run over by a peach truck...?

He wasn't run over by a peach truck. He was crushed by his own motorcycle after clipping the back of a flatbed hauling a crane that had stopped in front of him.

But either way, the poor guy died, and it was a tragic loss of life.

I wonder if the truck was coming/going to Marshall Lumber right next door?

"On October 29, 1971, while the band was on a break from touring and recording, Allman was riding his Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle at high speed on Hillcrest Avenue, in the western part of Macon. As he approached Bartlett Street, a flatbed truck carrying a lumber crane stopped suddenly in the intersection, forcing him to swerve sharply. He struck either the back of the truck or the ball on the lumber crane and was thrown from the motorcycle, which landed on top of him and skidded another 90 feet with him pinned underneath it."

Actually I knew and forgot the lore about the peach truck was just a story...the point was what might have been...Live albums don't get much better than At Filmore East...

I've seen Dylan several times but far and away the best was Jan. 19 1974 in Miami..."The 74 Tour" with 'The Band'...(still have the ticket stub)
The music was absolutely perfect...Levon Helm and Robbie Robertson were actually crying...Ive seen a lot of bands live but that night was something special...

Envious. That would have been amazing. I never went to a ton of concerts so I have nothing to compare to that. I did see REM in a very small venue before they were huge. That was the best concert I ever saw. Saw The Black Crowes when they first started too. They were sloppy and drunk. I thought they had the potential to be great. They just couldn't keep it together.
