Any one use these quick links

I use the quick link posted on my utility trailer and boat trailer (small boat). I cannot attest to strength because never had one come unhitched, but have also NEVER had a quick link come unscrewed no matter which direction the threads are facing. As was mentioned, make sure they are mounted so you screw them down to close and no worries. Thread lock is asking for trouble unless you want to use a wrench and screwdriver every time you unhook.

As for loose chains, I agree, shorten them or use something other than a bungie cord to hold em up. We have had some HUGE brush fires started out here due to sloppy trailer chains dragging. If they are long use a small cable to hold em up.

I hauled my 10K equipment trailer to an auction. 2 5/16 ball on a WD hitch. After I had the trailer loaded down with equipment I was pulling out of the driveway that went uphill. Had to stop at the top of the drive for traffic on the small side street. As I went to leave there was this shreaking sound and then a crash and the equipment trailer with its load went sliding across the street.

Snaped the saftey chains off the trailer end like they were bungi cords. Only thing I can figure is someone took my non-locking hitch pin as the hitch was still firmly attached to the tongue of the trailer.

So ya debate all the fancy clevis with and with out saftey wire, latching hooks bla bla bla. If the bumper pull is like most, the chains are likely attached to the trailer with something a little larger than tac welds which make the truck end sorta a mute argument.

OK, I tried to tow my trailer last week for the first time, and found I could not hook a safety chain to the truck.

The truck is a 2018 Silverado 2500 with what is I believe to be a Class 5 hitch,,,
the hitch uses a 2.5 inch receiver tube, rather than 2 inch.

Here is the issue,,, first a pic of the hitch

The problem is that there is a gusset welded directly behind the hole for the safety chain,,

I have not found any hook small enough to fit through the hole, that is big enough to fit through both holes,,,

Do you have any ideas how to connect a safety chain to this truck??

Why not weld on some lashing (d) rings?

Looks like you could do the same with the hooks comming from the backside first.

This pic looks similar to mine, except that quick link is not big enough to go through my hitch.

When open, that quick link has only a 1/2" gap, I need at least 3/4",,, if not more,
Hmmmmmmmm,,,,,,

Look at 1/2" diameter quick links, the one I found said that it had a 0.92" opening.

Actually, I have a couple of those 18,000 pound "D" rings,,
but, I should not need to weld to a brand new truck???

Probably don't need to, but I try to do it once and be done. It's now a "used" truck, you drove it off the dealer's lot. :) Weld them on and hit it all with some rustoleum or Eastwood Chassis Black
