In middle school geography I remember learning about the Mercator Projection. Where our standard flat map of the (globe) world makes continents near the poles look bigger.

I discovered that Europe's East-West distance was about the same as Texas'! Being from Texas that really put things into perspective for me.

Who new maps lie. :confused3:

Actually, it is even worse than that-Texas is bigger (by a small amount) than France

Since we are at page 5, I guess I will point it out, start the flame war and get the thread closed....
In the first post, people are not "Oriental". Furniture and design style is "oriental".

People are Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, etc.

I'm planning a trip next month. Flying to Portland OR., renting a car for a week, traveling up the Columbia River sightseeing and not sure where to go from there. Maybe up to Mount Rainier. If anyone knows some must-sees in that area, let me know. The last time I drove to Oregon we just drove down the coast. I've flown to Seattle a few times but never been out of the Seattle area.

I'm not interested in cities, mainly just seeing beautiful country-sides and natural wonders.

Hey, you'll be in our neck of the woods for sure. +1 on St Helens and Rainier. Paradise on Rainier is incredible, not sure how far up north your thinking of going but Olympic Peninsula is pretty amazing but might be farther than your planning on going.

Yeah, it's best to just let that go. :)

Around here...if you put a finger on a Harley that is not yours...without permission.... It may end very bad for you...

Around here, if you confront someone for touching your Harley, you'll probably get shot. It's one of the reasons not too many people ride Harleys to go out for the evening. They'll cruise the country, maybe go to a bar on the far outskirts of town, but you will rarely see one parked anywhere in town. They'll either get vandalized or stolen.

... All fun and games until you're the one on two wheels with a 2000# buffalo in the ditch next to you giving you the evil eye.

Been there, done that!

I’m not much of a world traveler, but I did travel to Hungary once. I was in a restaurant with a group of young American women. They would get kind of wound up when they could speak easily amongst themselves in english. They usually had to speak hungarian or german.

A waiter was taking an order at the next table, and they were clearly bothered by our noise level. The customer yelled out to the waiter in english, “I SPEAK LIKE AMERICAN!”

We were not making a favorable impression. 🤫

Mt St Helens is good to see, volcano blew back in 1980 if I recall.. it is amazing how the area has recovered after that devastation. If you end up in central/eastern Washington, Dry Falls is another wonder along with Grand Coulee dam.

Thanks for your replies. These places sound very interesting.

Must have trailer queen Harley's out there.. The areas we frequent, lots of bikes..and one biker looks out for the next. Few people will enter a row of bikes and start looking to steal something or otherwise do harm to the bike. ..in most cases, if we go somewhere in a group of 3-4 bikes..wherever we go, we get front row parking. If it's a larger group.. they make room for us in a very visible area of the lot.

I don't know how you get trailer queen out of that? It's an extremely high-crime area. You just don't leave any thing of any value any where, unattended, period, or it'll get damaged or stolen.
