Another thing is, if you have to buy off the tool truck, do not buy more than what you can pay off in 6 weeks.

That's my philosophy. I buy one thing, then it's $50 per week till it's paid for. Then I'll buy something else.

I try to explain that to the young kids that come to work for our company. Start out with a cheap tool kit to get you by. You can always borrow something special from a coworker till you get going. Then invest slowly in adding to your collection. This way your not stuck if something happens and and end up with half your tools repossessed.

They all want to run onto the truck and get a full tool box worth of stuff right then and end up with a mortgage payment to go with it.

Some tools from Mac are rebranded Nitrocat. Irwin has a nice tap and die set for like $200, while Snap-On wants $500 for the exact same one, just their color and their name. I like using Tooltopia for deals on good tools.

Mac's cordless stuff is made by Dewalt. And not much different in price when they are running specials. So I compar3d since he had both on the truck and purchased the one that I liked better :D

Most of the tools I purchased in the past several years were more for a tax write off. Been replacing older stuff for newer stuff in my box at work and taking the older stuff home for the garage :D

Got enough stuff that when I retire, both sons and my son in law will have there own full set of tools for there homes :D

You mean 'die'? When I retire, I will be using my tools more than I do now. Yeah, my son and SIL will make a nice haul when that day comes.

When you retire, you'll be twice as busy as you are now. :D

I "downsized" sold off a bunch of tools and equipment. Now I am out there buying it all over. Going HF for a lot of stuff. My Ryobi did not sell so still have that, best investment I ever made. Have worn out several of them over the years. I have cone through 2 recip saws doing demo work. Always check out HD for any specials. Recently got the new recip free with battery and charger special. I now have 8 LI batteries and the 6 place charger. The small ones are handy when working overhead due to weight.

Sorry I started that rumor on Kobalt, The Lowes spokesman was dead wrong it appears. I by a lot of material there as they are a lot closer than HD and I get the veteran 10%. A lot of there sale stuff is really a bargin. My store has expanded their brand array so much they have all the isles full with dispalys.

The one thing I really wanted from Kobalt was the ever popular (always sold out) double ratcheting screwdriver they advertised years back. It's nice that at least one more store will be selling Craftsman tools. I love closer to Lowes than ACE hardware, but only stoplight wise... distance wise it's a wash.

I think Kobalt is better tools and equipment than Craftsman. Look at them side by side at Lowes and make your own call.

Lowe's might be smart enough to put the quality back into Craftsman. They could create a whole new market.

That would fall under Stanley-Black and Decker now. Unless retail can dictate quality.
