"What I did was to spend about $100 on a half decent airsoft assault rifle. It's electrically operated (rechargeable battery) and fires the little biodegradable 6mm pellets at around 300 rounds-per-minute."

Is it a fully auto?

As a teen the neighbor's dog always tipped the trash can and I got the job to clean up the mess.
Back then I had access to blasting caps so I wired one up and using an standard extension cord back to a window that overlooked th trash can.

I waited 'til the mutt tipped the pail and once he has his head inside to gobble trash I hit the contact. (I had simply wired to a handy outlet)

One loud yelp and the mutt staggered back home never to tip out trash again.

You can just imaging how loud that cap was inside a trash can.

These days it is coons that get into my trash. I think I still have a couple of blasting caps now to devise some mechanism to set one off.
A thought, battery and close pin type switch or even better a microswitch under the lid.
Gotta try out a sample run.

"Heart of Dixie"

This!!!!!!

I live in central Alabama the heart of dixie. Like you, I love all animals...well, except for the occasional large racked buck. I figure I'm doing him a favor, mounting him on my wall, because he will just wear himself out in rutting...poor thing...lol

Put your phone in your pocket and go over one more time with it on record. And the naysayers that cry that you have to inform someone if your are recording them. B.S. The sheriffs down here don't care about that crap. After the recording, let the sheriff know about the dogs and the problems. He will tell you, if your in the country setting, to take care of the dang things. Any problems come up and you have proof of warning said trash neighbors. Probably be a good idea to take them out too...save a lot of welfare...lol Joking. You are not dealing with a felony murder case , just something the sheriff can verify that you talked to the neighbor first as a warning. I had to kill the most beautiful wolf bred dog, that breeding type use to be legal to do (not any more). Big/beautiful/aggressive. The red head woke me up early one morning after daylight and said the chickens are raising cain down in the pen. That dog/wolf had tunneled under the electric fence wire and forced his way in the chicken pen fence where we had 25 nice hens just got to laying age. The poor big red rooster was dead along with about20 chickens. He was trying his best to get the last of them. Ain't happening buba. I yelled at him from about 20' and he growled at me as he turned toward me. Big dog, probably around 160+ lbs. I unloaded a .357 dan wesson into him and he was suddenly in doggie heaven. we had a Dr. that had moved in recently across the road from my 70 acres and I had seen the dog around his place. I think it was his. I practiced the SSS method. That was the most beautiful dog that looked just like a huge wolf, that I have ever seen. It hurt me to do it but he got real aggressive really fast. He had teeth like a frigging Great White Shark. He could have easily took down a grown man with his size/strength. on him.

I just ordered this one from Cabelas. Looked like a good deal. It is full auto. Also free shipping with orders over $50. Use "freeship" code.

Don't forget to add a vertical forward grip along with a red dot for it:laughing:

When I shot my buddies, I'll have to admit, it was kind of fun watching those projectiles coming out and being able to actually see where you're directing your fire. If I ever had REAL problomatic dogs coming around, I would probably buy one just to see if it works as a deterrent (and perhaps have some side fun LOL). The projectiles are large enough and traveling at slower speed where you don't have to worry about penetration, but it could hurt like a bugger.

I think the biggest issue with those guns is the electronics giving out after a couple of years. My buddy had a couple of the same models and he told me he kept changing parts on them after a while.

I read this full thread last night and began to share my experiences but deleted by mistake.

The short of it was this: I do not remember any comment about a spouse, child or other family member or person being threaten by these dogs. If they are, you have a ethical and moral obligation to protect them period. I know a young lady who was almost killed by a dog and the scars on her leg are major. As bad of scars as I have ever seen. Long gaping ones showing how much tissue and muscle damage she suffered. She was blessed to have a pocket knife with which she fault to save her own life and killed the dog. Never able to prove who's dog it was.

I have grandchildren and wife who would stand no chance against two or three "wild dogs". It is my obligation to protect them from known dangers. It is my responsibility to select the best method and then act upon it. It could be a gun which is fast and selective. It could be live animal cage type trap and yes a dog will go in them for the dog food often used as bait in them and no the dog is not harmed in this. I bet you know someone who traps animals using traps that are also safe for the animal. If so see if they can help you. Check the laws for those traps for there may be a season only where they are legal but here think they are legal year round for such as coyotes.
To me the less people you discuss this with the better. Maybe the other neighbor who is also concerned with them and you could do this together. We have a few acres and have faced this issue some over the years. We do have animal control and they will loan a life cage trap and remove the trapped animal. They seek to find the owner and they will bill them and fine them with each time the fine increasing.

A 22 rifle is not loud, they will give good clean kill shots. If you do decide to shoot them do use kill shot to prevent their hurting and a now injured dog being more dangerous. Be careful in what you do, if they are a wild pack they will hunt you just as wolves do, watch your back seriously. Know before hand what needs to be done with the dead dog. I would not leave one or more just laying around.

At same time spending a hundred or two hundred to put in electric fence of buy your own cage type trap is not much to protect your property and maybe the life of a loved one. But if trapped and your county has no animal control then what? Must you then decide to either turn it lose or kill it?

Try using a paint ball gun on them. When they go home with paint on them he may take it more seriously. A lot of times people don't really believe that their good dogs are getting into trouble. I have two bird dogs that if I let run loose would be into everything and probably have a bounty on them - the few times that they have gotten loose they have brought me a ferral cat, a jack rabbit, and a nest full of birds that were blown down in a storm - and that is all from our place. They, and a bunch of hawks, are why I don't have chickens.

That alone will get them shot.

Haven't people ever heard of a dog fence (be it wood and wire and or electrical)?

By wild games I meant coyotes, raccoons, and possums. They leave the deer and cats alone. Our whole neighborhood love these dogs, most especially the kids. These dogs love to be petted and are absolutely docile to human.
