Talked to dealer yesterday, "never encountered anything like this before, still diagnosing". They will return it Friday so I can mow, if they haven't figured it out.
Broken already!

You know, after 51 posts and some tangents we went off on ... no one mentioned a nasty cause that it might have been -- no coolant in the thing ! Air won't drive the temp guage upward usually. Evidently that was not the problem since they found no voltage at the sensor. Apparently "just electrical."

Now that you point this out I can remember back when this exact thing happened to me.
"...this exact thing happened to me.." Yep, me too. 1962 Plymouth Valiant, in 1970. "Can't be overheated, the temperature gauge still shows OK!" Oops.
Had the opportunity to do a valve job & head gasket on that one....

Plenty of coolant, fan OK, belt in place, and tight, electrical connections appeared good, and I use the air gun to blow out the dust, clippings, etc., after nearly every use. I'm also very mechanical, raced and repaired cars, do all my own mechanical work, did all the work installing the 4cyl Cummins in my '81 Dodge truck, and modded (doubled the hp) the 6cyl Cummins in my '96, rebuilt my wifes cousin JD750, among other things, so I would have a pretty good idea if it was actually overheating. It was functioning normally. If it was out of warranty, I would have figured it out myself.
The dealer called, I'm getting a complete new wiring harness. They are dropping the tractor off Friday, so I can mow, and will let me know when the harness comes in, so they can come get it and install the harness. I'm thinking it's just the engine part, but we'll see. If it's the whole thing, I will try to get the old one. Maybe I can get the fuse block apart to add those circuits I talked about in another thread.

Yes on adding circuits... Wanted power to rear to run sprayer with engine off (yes I know wire already there and fused)... But existing circuit is key controlled, just ran inline fuse from battery plus terminal to switch mounted below dash, and wire to rear and picked up ground at rear... Even with engine off I can now spray....
Factory fuse panel may need some tweaks to get additional connections for power...

Football season is still months away and here I am already getting started with armchair quarterbacking. Doesn’t make sense to me that the whole wiring harness needs replacing or that replacing it will fix the problem. It’s a simple two wire circuit to and from the sensor. Fixing the problem most likely will require a new dashboard printed circuit board, that’s where I think the problem is.

They did mention not wanting to cut and splice a harness on a tractor with 30 hours on it, so approval was given for a new harness. If that doesn't fix it...........

I would raise H if they were gonna spice into the wiring on my new tractor! I have had that issue with a car years ago in which the wire was broken someplace in the harness and they replaced the whole thing. Was on my 2011 VW Gold TDI, a rocket ship that saw 44mpg with ease and 36 in city. VW bought it back on the TDI recal...not sure i should have sold it back but the car had 106,000 and they offered me within six grand of what i paid for it. I figured 6k for 106k of driving was cheap

I think you have it right.... Simple ohmmeter test between plug on end of harness (at dash) and connector at temperature sensor on engine block would confirm if its a "wire" issue...
