Neighbor is hard on fence

I guess I've been lucky so far. Had a couple of the neighbors trees fall on my fence. Contacted him once and asked if he would help clear tree and repair fence. I was told it was an "act of god" so he had no responsibility. I picked it up with my backhoe and pushed it on his side away from the fence. Later they had a fire line cut around their property and picked the tree up and laid it right up against my fence. Gonna push it back off one of these days. My other three bordering neighbors are good ones.

I forgot to mention the guy behind me has no easement to access his property. It used to have access through a church property and they blocked it and built a building there. Keeps trying to sell the property to me and everyone that adjoins at top dollar. Keep dreaming dude!

I once watched a high school age boy run through about 6 adjacent back yards, all with six foot fences. He was lucky no one had a big dog or sticker bushes.

Probably practicing for an obstacle course.

In our old neighborhood, I was home from work sick one day. Lying on the couch, looking out the window, I see this kid, about 15-16 years old, sprinting down the street with two more kids chasing him. He hurdled our 4' fence without touching it, ran across our back yard and vaulted the other side with his hands... pretty much never broke stride. He looked scared. The kids chasing him ran around the yard and down the alley after him.

In Michigan, if a neighbors tree falls and damages something on your property, your insurance has to cover it... not his. If you notice a bad tree, and inform him legally that he needs to address it, then if it falls it is on his dime. Just the way it is up here....

I always walk the fence line when in Washington and California...

New WA neighbors have cows and installed all new fencing... which is great... what is not so great is they left a small pick up load of old barb wire and fence posts in a pile on my side... no one was at home during my short visit.

In California it is much different... folks will dump trash and then call the city to have you clean it up...

I caught one real good a few years ago... the home owner called the city and the city issued my parents a nuisance abatement... real rugged access from parents side... I investigated and found mail of the person that called to report...

Insisted code compliance come out... went all the way to the city manager's office.

The woman of the house raised a fuss... turns out her 11 year old son was simply tossing their trash over the fence... and now I had proof and they were on notice... and it stopped it cold.

Vigilance is the price of ownership...
