I've listened to all of them except Linkin Park(sp?). There's some good stuff there....
A major reason I am not familiar with many bands/music is in the mid to late 70's my tastes wandered and I pretty much quit listening to rock/pop radio stations...

I mix it up...I'm too frugal to pay for satellite radio so if I'm in the car I'm up and down the dial...pretty much all genres as long as it's recognizable or catchy... Even though I have a large library of (digital and hard copy) music my spare time is mostly spent reading these days rather than listening but I do spend some of it on youtube reminiscing the many great groups I got to see perform live...

I don't have satellite anymore either... about 5 years now. So it's just radio for me most days to and from work, or whenever in the car, or when I'm working in the yard, I turn on the stereo in the garage. I've got a couple nice speakers under the eaves of an outbuilding and I can hear it pretty much anywhere on the back of our 1 acre. Neighbor doesn't mind. He collects, buys, sells, trades, repairs classic audio equipment and we have similar music tastes. We have a pretty ok classic rock station here. And juuuuussssst out of fringe there are several really good ones, so road trips up to 100 miles, I know all the good spots on the dial.

When no one is around, however, I will pop up cajun music, especially when I'm working on a physical project. I don't know why. I can't understand a word they're saying. The accordion sounds the same in every song. The singer is wailing away. And for some reason, I can get really focused and crank out a lot of work and enjoy the heck out of it. Go figure? :confused3:

In the truck I will sometimes be listening to Octane on SiriusXM but usually I have it on Turbo. In the workshop if I’m not listening to talk radio then it will be Pandora or YouTube.

Same thing happened to me when Jesus picked me up out of the gutter in 1975. I listened to a lot of contemporary Christian music for several years.

When my wife died in 1989, I took up roller skating, and was exposed to a lot of rock music I'd never heard. Rock 'n Roll is the best skating music.

One of the biggest sleeper bands I ever saw was at some motorcycle races at "Road Atlanta" (actually Commerce GA) back in the early 80's IIRC...

Had went down to see a friend race and he talked me into staying for a concert after the races...I was only slightly familiar with the band and had not heard much of their music even though they had been around...'The Fabulous Thunderbirds'...(Jimmie Vaughan)

They blew me away and everyone else within earshot...when they opened up I would guess there were less than 50 people watching...by the third or fourth number there were (seemed like) thousands dancing and going nuts...

I saw them in Tampa...They had everyone standing on their seats when they did 'What About Me'....Think they were threatened with arrest by the Tampa cops for inciting a riot...!

That's another interesting aspect of rock and roll. I've seen some big name bands that put on mediocre shows and I never knew if it was just an off night or it they were always so-so on stage. (I'd always read that you never knew what you'd get at a Zep concert. Most of their filmed concerts are awful.)

And yet, I've seen a number of small time regional bands put on amazing and memorable shows. One of these that comes to mind was a party band that was hot on the southeast coast in the early 1980's called the Spongetones. The name of the band pretty much says it all, they were a cover band. But they covered EVERYTHING. They'd start with early Herman's Hermits, Beatles, Paul Revere and the Raiders and as the night progressed they'd work through most of the English invasion, even throwing in a few Black Sabbath songs. They did not try to put their stamp on the music, they duplicated it. With each set you'd swear you were hearing the original band. Their emphasis was on the Beatles but they did it all well and with a stage presence and talent that made them fun to watch and hear from start to finish. They could whip a big college party into a frenzy. And they are still around and touring. They have original albums too but I have not explored them.

FYI...directing others to ignore another because you don't care for their opinions, comments or observations...says a lot more about YOU than it does the other...(it's advice for the narrow minded by the even narrower minded)...

Agreed.
