I’ve got a really durable piece of 1/4 aluminum diamond plate on my grasshopper.

If you can weld, make one from square tubing and sunbrella fabric. If you don't know how to weld hire it out. It shouldn't cost more than $200.

Look online for golf cart canopy tops. There are a lot of them from cheap to gold plated and lots of sizes. Should be able to find something that will work.

If you ever expect to work around trees I would recommend steel, aluminum, or a wood DIY canopy; definitely not fiberglass.

I bought a 9' patio umbrella (for $20 on clearance), plan on strapping a PVC pipe on the ROPS of the M4700 and sticking it in the pipe. Easily removable for when I go where it's dense, which is most of the time.

I've got a metal canopy for it but took it off for the drive from Virginia to Mississippi and it doesn't seem worth putting back on.

Because it would be more durable or because it would better resist penetration from a falling dead branch? Or?

I worry a lot about branches falling from dead trees, etc when they get hit.

Durable. Fiberglass is rigid but brittle. My steel canopy has some new bends from trees but still does the job (and can be straightened if I cared enough). Some of the flexible plastic materials might be OK (durability-wise) with a good frame. I am skeptical about the quick on/off option unless the canopy is very light. My metal canopy weighs about 100 lb and there was nothing quick about installing it. I have no concerns about falling dead branches but a whole tree would crush the canopy (but perhaps spare me).

By the way, with the canopy cantilevered on the ROPS it puts a lot of force on the ROPS (pulling it forward) and makes creaking sounds on uneven ground. My ROPS is pivoted at the base and I had to switch to harder adjusting bolts (and hardened plates) because the OE bolts were too soft and the ends were mushrooming. I am considering adding front struts to better support the canopy.

I hit tree limbs with the canopy on my mower all the time. I really should take a chainsaw to them but that would be a weeks work for the amount I’m dealing with. I wouldn’t even consider anything that’s breakable.

What was the price on the Kioti canopy?

My dealer gets $450 out the door for them. Fiberglass or Diamond Deck Aluminum. Either or.
