I think most in this thread are jumping to the conclusion that I haven't been to the doctor in many years and am in dire straights. Not true at all. Maybe I should have given a little more info in my original post.

I walk 2 miles every day along with stretching exercises and dumbells. I have a physical every year to include blood work. Clean bill of health for many years. Just a little sluggish, probably because of the hot weather. Nothing major, just thought I would start a thread for general discussion. It went in a different direction than expected. Thanks to all who responded.

Great to know.

If you eat a balanced diet no need for supplements unless there is a medical reason. If you don’t then you can consider them. Sounds like you have the MD and exercise stuff down. Maybe increasing the distance and pace of your walks a bit? Cardiovascular health is always important.

Aside from this I see no problems with a homeopathic MD visit. Who knows it might help!

There is an old saying that a 電octor who treats himself is a fool? Hmmm...

It's also true with nurses. My wife's one and she's bad about looking up symptoms online and diagnosing herself. Usually takes my boot to her booty to get her to the doctors for something

Both of us use the same doctor who is one of the top in our area. Knows his stuff and can get to an issue very quickly. He's also really laid back and easy to get along with.

OP, I reccomend seeing your doctor for a full physical. My mom had really really low energy. Like parking as close as she can to the door of a grocery store. Walking the 60 ft and having to take a 5 minute break to catch her breath. She was admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with Leukimia a couple months later.

Dad developed issues a couple years later. He ended up needing a triple bypass. Then a year after that he was diagnosed with diabetes. His issues were do to lifestyle and could be easily remedied by diet and excersise.

Hey OP, just a thought? Do you snore? My wife has sleep apnea which we found out afterwards was indicated by her gosh awful snoring. I mean really bad snoring. Once she got treated for the sleep apnea her energy levels picked way up. But getting a proper diagnosis started with a trip to the doc. Good luck.

Okay, another off the wall thought. When was the last time you had a colonoscopy?

I'll try to make this short. I found myself slowly losing energy over several years and having trouble pooping (not bad but enough to know I was having trouble). I'm 62. I chalked it up to getting older. Come to find out, the hard way, I was developing a diverticulitis attack. In early March of this year, the discomfort suddenly got so bad I went to the ER and spent 5 days in the hospital. They drained a ridiculous amount of infection out of me and were giving me intravenous antibiotics. I almost went septic. I was on antibiotics for some time afterwards. The docs gave me three months for things to calm down, then scheduled a colonoscopy (just to confirm what they already knew and to know how bad my colon was) followed with surgery the next day. They removed a foot of my colon. (With the right surgeon and caught at the right time, that surgery can be done laproscopically and avoiding a colostemy bag. I feel better now and have more energy than I have felt in 10 years. But again, this is one that required a doctor visit and I didn't push it near hard enough when I did see the doc over the years.

Seriously, push a doc on this one. From my experience it showed slowly with constipation and lack of energy, but once it escalated it was ridiculously painful, potentially life-threatening and wasn't going to fix it itself. A good surgeon can fix this one easy and the results are amazing. Good luck.

TN, to follow up on my prior post. I pushed myself hard. Nobody knew how sick I was, not even me, and I see the doc every three months. I walk five miles a day, both before and after my diverticulitis attack and surgery. Last year I pushed myself to walking eight miles a day prepping for a 10,000'+ elevation elk hunt. (Bagged a nice 6x6, even better my nephew was guiding.) As I said, nobody had a clue how sick I was. Seriously, are you having any digestive issues at all? My doc and I missed mine completely until it sent me to the ER. Not to trying to hammer you, just don't want anybody to go through what I went through. Good luck.

Had a colonoscopy couple of years ago. Clean as a whistle. Doctor said come back in 5 years for another one. No problem pooping.

Like I said, I go to doctors on a regular basis. Not so sure I should have originally posted. Not a serious issue. Most likely just a matter of not being as young as I used to be. We're 30 only once, unfortunately.

By the way, congrats on the elk. A real bucket list thing for sure.

I just don't seem to have enough energy these days. Probably just a matter of getting older. I'm 69.

Any vitamins/supplements you use that seem to help? Maybe something your doctor prescribed that's working? I need a little boost to get me out of the easy chair and into the chores.

You're 69 years old. You ARE slowing down. It's what nature intended for us to do.

What helps me at 65? Drink lots and lots of water, get a little more sleep and do some stretching exorcises for the back & hips and some squats first thing in the morning.

Probably the hardest thing to do is to cut down the mileage on your walking. Your knees and hips are 69 also. You don't want to start replacing them.

Well, you sound healthy.... start drinkin! When I was drinkin, I was always runnin, too, so, hey, I had plenty of energy.

How's your sleepin? Do you snore? If so, maybe you have apnea and aren't getting a good night's sleep and don't even know it.

How's your diet? I consume well over 4000 calories a day, yet manage to have good energy and maintain my girlish figure of 215#. ;) I average burning about 3900 calories per weekday and a lot more on weekends, when we go for longer walks. While I eat a ton of cookies, cakes, and pies, I also eat a ton of fruits, vegetables, and one helping of meat per day, alternating between beef, chicken and fish. Usually drink 2-20oz pops and 2 quarts of 2% milk per day.

Two miles a day is about 40 minutes for an average person @ 3MPH. Do you walk at a fast enough pace to get your heartbeat up? I go about 5-6 miles during my working day, and the wife and I walk at least 2-2.5 miles after dinner every night, but at a fast pace. Takes us about 30 minutes.

There's no little magic vitamin to get your energy up without knowing your specifics, and, again, that's up to the Dr. Tell him/her you feel sluggish.

As for not being sure you should have originally posted, at the least, it starts a discussion amongst people that may not have thought about our health in a long while. Can't hurt to talk about stuff (politics, religion and finances being the exception at the dinner table, of course).
