Well -crumb bunnies - - I fall right between Doofy( the kid ) and oldballs (the senior ) - - I'm 76. It will be nice when I'm so old I can't remember what it was like when I was young. I still remember - the 'ol bod says - "lets go do it" - I pay the price for two- three days after. At least I still have my - get up and go - - it hasn't - got up and went, yet.

Man - summer has come in with a vengeance here - - 92 yesterday at 3:30 - probably 94 by that time today. Outside humidity down to 4% yesterday at 6:30pm probably very close to that today.

I sit in the house - drink an ice cold Grape NeHigh - watch the hummingbirds sip their sugar sauce. Any work that going to get done will be before 9am and after 7pm.

Things that have worked for me are a vigorous exercise program, eating almost no saturated fats, almost no added sugar and drinking lots of water. I get tired mid day so I take a nap and wake up with a new sense of purpose and the gusto to get some work done. It's basically like two days. The nap can be 15 minutes or an hour and a half depending on how I feel. It works for me. There's something about sugar that saps your energy.

Basically, I get up early and am on my outside tasks at 7AM or earlier. Lunch at noon, nap and then start over. It's been the only thing that allows me to get my chores done and I picked up the concepts from exercising with older guys that clued me in. So, diet, exercise and nap time.

I walk 2 miles every day along with stretching exercises and dumbells. I have a physical every year to include blood work. Clean bill of health for many years. Just a little sluggish, probably because of the hot weather. Nothing major, just thought I would start a thread for general discussion. It went in a different direction than expected. Thanks to all who responded.

I could run 10 miles under an hour in my youth. Back operation put a end to running. Do however get out for a 3 or 4 mile walk everyday with the misses.

I'm only 52 now.

When I was 45, I could work balls to wall for 5 hours non stop around the house doing yard work per physical labor.

Now, out with the Boss chainsaw, I've come to the conclusion that after a half hour working it, if it has to go higher than my waist, I'm done for the day per getting tuckered out. Chainsaw I've had for 13 years is finally getting too dang heavy for constant use for myself.

My FIL is 72, retired at 65 and was a power lineman for 30 years in rural Vermont. Guy was a workhorse when I first met him. He may work for an hour around the house nowadays, but now can be caught catching a nap with one of his dogs on his lap on the sofa on more than a daily basis.

IF you've been to the doctor and everything seems fine, the old addage "getting old is a biatch" comes to mind LOL.

Just make sure you're knocking out any sugars, including. They'll sneak up on you and kill you.

I knew I was starting to get old when coming back from church in the car with the boys in the backseat on Sunday early afternoon, I said to my wife "I can't wait to get home and get in bed with you to take a nap!".

Kind of look forward to Saturday and Sunday snoozes LOL

All disease begins in the gut. - Hippocrates

I'm 55. About 5 years ago I had a motorcycle accident and broke a few ribs, punctured lung, broken collarbone... found out I was allergic to opioids, so starting taking Ibuprofen (Motrin) for pain - okay and some Scotch as well. That caused me to get a really bad case of "Leaky Gut" - the lining of the intestines become permeated with a fungus that leads to a slew of symptoms - one of which for me was blisters all over my hands so bad I had to wear gloves. I saw every doctor I could but none of them even had a clue about my hands much less what "Leaky Gut" is and what causes it - NSAIDS are one clear cause... if you use Ibuprofen regularly you may be afflicted. The symptoms are plentiful: How to Heal a Leaky Gut – Experience Life

I'm surprised at some people's attitudes about their bodies. I wouldn't feed my dog what a lot of people consider food (me included) and as far as maintenance goes much less time taking care of the body than their tractor or automobile. And what do you think "cures" us? It isn't some outside thing, chemical or drug that does it. It's our body that heals itself many drugs just give the body a focus. Want to kill cancer? In many cases fasting will cure it. Yes, it will. Fasting is promoted in nearly every religion and most animals will fast when sick.

Fasting To Cure Cancer | Cancer Active

I'm not a doctor, and I don't play one on TV. But I **** sure am not going to "trust" someone with a degree to tell me what's wrong with me. A degree and a lot of experience helps, but the Internet is your friend here. I'm going to do my own research and at least in my leaky gut saga I was the one who figured it out by way of a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor getting me pointed in the right direction. She gave me a bag of bugs and sticks that I was to make a tea of and drink. GEESH. YUCK. But after thinking about it and doing some reading what those bugs and sticks were doing was "clearing out the junk" so my gut could heal.

Type 2 diabetes can often be "cured" with diet and fasting by keeping insulin response to a minimum: How to reverse diabetes type 2 – the video course - YouTube

Fasting allows your body the opportunity to focus on healing - digesting food is a HUGE job for the body, fasting allows it to use all that energy to do repairs. More on intermittent fasting: What is intermittent fasting? - YouTube

An excellent book on diet and health: The Diet Cure by Julia Ross | Julia Ross' Cures

For those who are open minded about what we don't yet understand - here's a book to open up your thinking about what we are really capable of written by a skeptical researcher who asks that you not believe anything he says without your own investigation, but his claim is a cancer cure by way of "hands on healing" like you've heard of in religious and spiritual groups: http://bengstonresearch.com/book-cd/the-energy-cure

I now take a handful of supplements (you CANNOT get everything you need from diet alone), probiotics and a good multivitamin regularly. When I don't take it my energy is lower. My wife takes a supplement called "Thrive" - it's a multi-level-marketing thing, but the supplements are AWESOME for energy and vitality.

I also have a great doctor with whom I discuss this stuff and get his input :)

In best health. I love you guys/gals - I get so much helpful information here. I hope this helps one of you!

Cholesterol levels need to be considered over the long term. Besides my regular Dr visits I also have health screenings for my insurance every year. I like to play with it, seeing how high or low I can get my levels. One year I had a Whopper and onion rings the night before... the nurse almost had a heart attack herself over my levels. Then I pulled out my results for the last 2 years.

Hamburg really boosts it up; go figure, is there anything which tastes any better? 20 years ago my Dr wanted to put me on Lipitor but I said no way; ground beef was the only thing I took out of my diet and my number dropped.

I'll try telling that to my wife.

That's about it for me. Put in several hours before the heat hits. Take a break, go again for a short stint. Take a break, go back out when it cools down.

But I'm retired, every hour I work is free

Low energy and tired ? B vitamin levels are low. Supplementary shots or a Red Bull in the morning. Red Bull is loaded with all the B's and a bit of caffeine. I buy it by the case at Costco. It makes you finish a project and helps you think, too.
