What are these called and where do you buy them?

We called them "tub skids" back in the early 80's up in Boeing Seattle. I have no idea what they're real name is.

But I need one (or more). Approximate size is 4'x4'x3' or so.

So what are they called, where can I buy one (or more) and typically how much do they cost?

Watch for them at industrial auctions. Problem is, they often are sold in industrial sized lots.

Every scrap yard I’ve ever been to is littered with them but won’t sell them at least for a fair price because they use them.

I worked for a company that got raw plastic pellets in tubs that size only the tubs were heavy duty multi-layer cardboard. In the injection molding industry they were called - gaylords.

Each cardboard gaylord would hold a ton of plastic pellets. We only got special and exotic types of plastic in these small lot sizes. Normally our bulk plastic came in a rail car and it held around 65,000 pounds of plastic pellets.

Some of those tubs are ' drop bottom ' and the bottom opens up when the tub is put in the proper stand made to let it open up. The standard tubs are usually dumped by using a fork truck with a rotating set of forks to turn it upside down. There used to be big piles of them out in the parking lots at GM machining plants. They are common industry tubs.
