Trip to the Big City

I usually enjoy and participate in political argumentation. But I not participating in the Politics forum that exists here. Discussions there get hijacked by a couple of people who constantly engage in an online food fight based on name-calling of others. When you read: "turkey neck just betrayed President Cheeto" .... well, enough said.

I think the TBN owners should confine the foul talkers in the FP section to that section. They have tried banning them before and that didn’t work. The rest of TBN is where the real fun is, not FP.

Yup, that's still the case. I head up there about once a week and you need to be on I-5 at 2-3pm if you want to beat traffic. If you're heading south you need to be on the road by 2pm otherwise you'll catch the Sea-Tac-JBLM-Oly combo.

I’ll have to speak favorably about Houston even in respect to traffic. Yes, there are some delays and tight spots and if there is a bad wreck or some problem then things can get jammed up like anywhere else.

For the most part, especially if you have some flexibility in your schedule Houston is an amazingly easy town to navigate.

I’ve spent a lot of time on the streets there all over town and know many short cuts and alternate routes. For the most part it’s a pleasant town to drive in.

Yeah, the thing that really hurts Seattle(and SF) is all that water funneling traffic. Combine that with a population explosion, infrastructure that can't keep up and that's what you have today.

That said I'll still take the economic boom over what's been happening in other parts of the state. Longview in particular is in rough shape and doesn't have the economy or tax base to pull its self out of the current slump.

Houston is a great city. Has everything a city should have--restaurants, etc.--with a friendly southwestern tang.

Yep the geography/topography is a two edge sword. I know the Puget Sound and Bay Area better than most. What makes them a place both beautiful and desirable to live is also their Achilles heel in a way. Bridges are key.

I'm assuming Longview still hasn't evolved from its glorious lumber/logging days and is still too far from Portland to be a bedroom for Portland/Vancouver. Next generation though, it could be a place that is thriving as prices go up and quality of life change for the worse in the 'big' cities.
