How long should a John Deere 345 last

Repower offers a Honda engine replacement kit for $2000. Maybe a bit expensive but another option. I would not rebuild at the dealer for $1200. The Honda comes with a three year commercial warranty.

this place 26 HP Kawasaki Liquid Cooled Engine FD731V-BS7 | Kawasaki | Brands | www.surpluscenter.com had it for less than half that price, but apparently those engines were bought out by some schemer trying to make a killing profit.. but Surpluscenter may get more in stock..

Repaired a 345 with 1200 hours on it for a customer last year. Replaced the camshaft to the metal one, also had to replace the water pump gear, governor gear, and oil pump gear because they were also broken when the cam gear came apart. Total bill with just over $700 for the customer. I have heard JD charges as much as $1200 for this repair.

If you are doing the repair yourself the parts are not that expensive.

This is exactly what happened to mine (well except the additional components didn't break when the cam gear did -- I just replaced them since they are much easier / cheaper to replace while everything is apart). I had the local Deere dealer do it for around $1100 total. The tractor was bulletproof up until this failure and has been absolutely great since the repair so I feel it was money well spent.
