To the OP- glad you got it 'fixed' without having to do what some suggested you might have to do. For a guy not familiar with JD tractors specifically I think I did a good job of describing what likely happened from taking a close look at your original pics.

Reading the manuals for each piece of the equipment that one adds to their tractor, especially something as often used as a loader, is one big lesson for all owners to consider, of any brand tractor, mower, etc., myself included.:thumbsup:
Seems to me the latching system, as numerous others have said, definitely lacks some failsafes, which might easily be added, especially for those who 'never' remove theirs.....just saying.:confused3:
