What's everyone think about the Femco Inc Tuff Top?

I just installed one. I am not a visual person. So pictures in instructions are worthless to me. These instructions are ALL pictures. Some text but not much. Thankfully SWMBO is very visual. So she translated for me.

My beef is they gave kubota orange and JD green but not NH blue. So I got a white one.

It fits above the ROPS about 5 in or so. So if you already have clearance issues take note of that fact.

I just installed one of these on my L3800. Perry Corp Canopy

I tried one of the Femco Tufftop's, but it was flimsy and the branches ruined it. For what I paid for the Femco (around $250), I wish I had bought the Perry steel unit in the first place (buy once, cry once). The Femco also had cheap/flimsy brackets and vibrated/shook badly when mowing. I had run around my yard and pasture with my pole saw and trimmed all the major branches, but my top eventually developed a split at the leading edge of the fold that seemed to catch every little twig that brushed past, eventually grabbing one and twisted the cheap frame. I gave up on it and took it off.

I think the Femco is a temporary solution and at $250, you'd be better off finding a golf cart roof and making your own canopy that's more robust. Or, just bite the bullet and spend $400 for the Perry steel or aluminum model (or, fabricate your own from steel sheet, or R-panels). The brackets on the Perry are pretty simple and seem like they'll work well.

Bottom line, if I had time, I'd just build one patterned after the Perry model.

Golf cart roof seems like a great idea. Now don’t laugh too hard, but I was driving by a waste management company’s base yard the other day and they had stacks of brand new dumpster lids in the back; I thought to myself “I could build a nice tractor canopy with one of those”.

I assume these are the plastic ones? If so, that sounds like a great idea. Another use for them is siding for a deer blind.

Yup, the plastic ones. They’re about the right size and shape to begin with and seem built pretty durable.

I love it. I bought my first one for my tractor several years ago and it's been great. Temps under it are noticeably cooler and more comfortable. When out mowing, if I see a storm coming in, I keep on mowing until it's really raining hard because most of my body remains dry. I hate having to stop mowing once I get going. I've hit more branches then I can remember with it and it just bends as I go past them. I have lost the edge trim off of the back of it, but I don't miss it since it was just there for looks.

I put one on my zero turn mower after liking the one on my tractor so much and wish that I had done that sooner. The difference in temperature during the summer heat is significant. I've also brushed up against branches and bent it pretty good quite a few times, and it just keeps on going.

I'm surprised at the negative comments on it since they are so different then my experience with it. Other then price, one of the main things that I looked at when comparing them online was their size. Wider is better because it's all about providing as much shade as possible.
