Mahindra 4500 2WD

My Mahindra 4500 has stopped lifting up the bush hog cutter. It takes all my muscle to pull back the level that lifts the bush hog. It worked ok in the past year. I checked the H-fluid behind the seat, it is full up to the stick level. The bush hog lift level appear to be locked down or something. What can I look for to see why my level is not working anymore, or why it is so hard to pull up????

Holy cow. I’ve had this issue with 3 pt on same tractor. Worked fine for years then all of a sudden no. Lever is so stiff I had to hit it with a hammer to move it. Asked around but never got answers. Luckily I haven’t had much need for 3 pt lately. Following this thread.

Linkage needs lubed? If it has draft control the feed back link is out of adjustment? :confused3:

Thanks for the quick reply JABONEE: Can you please tell me where on my Mahindra 4500 is the Linkage that needs to be lubed? And what do I lube it with H-fluid or transmission fluid. How could my Mahindra lose the lube, the bush hag lift handle worked last year?

Linkage on each model can vary. Most are connected directly to the 3pt control valve. There is a pivot shaft that the handle or linkage connects to. That is most often what seizes up and needs lubed. Move the lever and see whats moving. Doust with lube while moving handle. I like PB blaster but what ever penetrating spray lube floats your boat will do. FYI all hyme joints and pivots should be lubed regularly. Some have grease fittings. Most do not.:thumbsup:

I like PB Blaster too. I had sprayed mine with WD-40 but it made no difference. Jabonee, can you take a pic and post it here?

Thanks again JABONEE: I am looking all around my Mahindra 4500 2-WD and do not see the Linkage or Pivot shaft. My bush hog lift control handle are on the right of the driver seat. There are two handle, one with a red knob and the other a black knob. The red knob lift the bush hog which is now hard as **** to move backward or forward. The other handle is the black knob, it appear to be some type of level gage. Both attached to a metal pipe rod coming from under the seat to the left. I do not see any sign or anything that let you oil or lube these two handles. Are you speaking of spraying or oiling the two handles where they joint together. There is a metal knob at the front of lower seat, between your legs. What do this metal knob do? The only option for adding oil to the bush hog lift is the square bolt behind the seat, that you add HI. fluid to.

There has to be a pivot shaft where the handles are attached and pivot on. There should be a friction nut on the end of that shaft that controls how stiff the handles move. Try backing that nut off and hitting it with some lube. The knob between your knees is the rate of drop valve. It can control how fast an implement will drop on your 3pt. Think of it like a faucet valve on your sink. The further open it is the faster the implement drops.

If you are talking about the nut I think you are, I loosened mine to the point it was almost off. Made no difference at all.

follow the shaft to all points and lube it there.. if the lube don't work the issue will be inside the frog

I got the same problem on my 3325. I'm going to pull the cover off when I get time and chase those linkages down. But there is no lube point mentioned in the manual.

Theres not a lube point that exist.. over time moisture build up will start to seize the handle shaft that goes through the housing... about 95% of the time it can be handled from the outside... take a picture each step you go for reference when you put it back together... then tear down each part of that 3point and clean it up well.

HI NAVASOT: I have looked up and around the back where my bush hog lift on my Mahindra 4500 2WD, and I see nowhere is there any sign or plug where you can lube. The only plug is the H-fluid plug behind the seat on the right corner. It shows plenty of fluid. How do the so called IRON bar with the threads that you turn with the hole in the middle. Could I have this threaded to far out or two far in that maybe causing the bush hog lift handle to be so tight to move? I have another long handle on the left of the front of the seat, I never use or moved. It appear to me a handle to control another H-instrument on the back of the tractor. What is the FROG, and where is it. The only other place I can see where the problem maybe, is the square metal box piece under the seat, where the bush hog lift arms bolt to. But again I thing that is where the H-fluid is housed. Last year my bush hog lift handle worked with no problem, and lifted the bush hog high.

The frog is the lift housing.... and there wont be lube points you just spray rust breaker or some type of penetrating lube on every pivot point that involves the 3point handle...

I been searching the Internet for answers. One suggestion was to change the UTF in the hydraulics. Can someone tell me what and where is the UTF????? How do you change it?????

Let's start small and work up. UTF is the hydraulic fluid, and it's both a bit time consuming and a bit expensive to change.

To start with, make sure every pivot point of the 3pt lever assembly is free moving. Looking at the online parts illustration, there's quite a few on the 4500.
Go here and pull up the lever schematic...
Mahindra parts
Go to model search, and type in 4500. Select 4500 2wd from the left side. It'll give a menu of parts schematics. Pick Hydraulics from the right side menu. That will pull up a series of schematics. Click on the second panel, second row. That's the schematic for the 3pt lift lever assembly. Make sure every joint in that assembly is loose and free moving. If they all are, then we can move on to bigger and better (or worse) things.

I too am having the same problem on my 4505. The lever started getting hard to move and freed up all at once. Went to till food plots about a month ago and it wouldn't budge at all. I have been spraying penetrating oil on it since and tapping the assembly as well as the lever with a hammer to no avail. The valves in front of the seat have not been turned as they have been froze up for years.

Is there a relief valve in the system that could be causing this? I see nothing in the parts diagram showing a relief valve other than at the pump.

I see O-rings in the diagram that seal the shaft attached to the 3pt lever from the weather. If this o-ring is bad and water got in; does anyone see any reason why I couldn't apply a little heat to the assembly with a torch to attempt to free the shaft?

I appreciate any input and didn't mean to hijack thread. I've been searching online for any info on this issue for about a month and finally found someone experiencing the same problem. Thanks folks.

I had the same issue with my 4025. Mine was fixed with constant penetrating oil daily, after about a week it was good as new.

I think the same happened with ours. Brother in law been messing with it. I'll ask him today.
