Since my original "backhoe only swings 20 degrees"post, I have heard from a dealer in Conn. and the swing cylinders [BH-18-0100] are correct for this application. That only leaves the trunnion. The cylinders and trunnion appear to be as new on this machine. I believe someone has previously installed the wrong parts but don't have anything to compare them to. I noticed this problem during initial inspection and the previous owner said it was this way when he got it. If anyone has a 2385 and could measure the distance between cylinder mount points, or offer suggestions,it would be greatly appreciated.

There is a swing/boom lock on these, is it still installed or broken off, worth checking to be sure?
Correct part for machine BD18-0100-B
Swing arc 180 degrees
Bore DIA ø60(2.363")
Retracted Length 138(5.433")
Stroke 228(8.976")

100td Thanks for your input! The transportation pins/lock have been removed for operation. All other functions are correct except the swing. I measure approx 8" from cylinder face to rod end connection, when the boom is straight ahead. That doesn't leave much travel to extend the cylinder. The boom swings approx 20 degrees in either direction.

The design of the swing generally only needs a short travel extension on one side and large retract on the other.
In the parts list it appears the swing cylinders have a mechanical stop on them, if they were fitted opposite sides, or flipped 180 degrees this may limit travel mechanically?

Are you saying the previous owner couldn't use his backhoe either?

100td Yes the previous owner told me he used the backhoe this way! I just looked at the cylinders and there does not seem to be any stops on the cylinder. Tomorrow I will remove the pivot bar above the cylinders and see if any stops are located there. Thanks again great ideas!!

Are the hydraulic hose connections in the center for both cylinders, or on the outside of the cylinders?

Pull the pin out of one of the cylinders and see if it will swing fully one way. If it doesn't pull the other and make sure it does, then have a look to see why it won't, what is stopping it.

Which one does your swing cylinder resemble?

6.5 inches. The hydraulic connectors face out. We have a 2007 DK45S with a KB2385. If you take pictures, I will be happy to compare it to our backhoe.
In normal operation, the KB2385 swings until it hits the outriggers.
Suggest you turn the tractor off and push left and right by hand on the dipper stick while holding the corresponding control lever to release the hydraulic fluid from the cylinders to see if there are any obstruction.
