I currently use over the ear muffs. They work great and are comfortable. I am a hobby user of the tractor and it is open station.

I would really like to listen to music when I am out mowing for hours. I just cannot get ear buds to be comfortable under the muffs. Tried different brands of buds etc.

Any one use any kind of noise canceling headphones? I'd really like to be able to hook it up to my iphone and listen to pandora.

I just bought the 3M AM/FM Work Tunes without blue tooth and they work great. Clear reception on FM stations and does a really good job blocking out the tractor noise.

Music is generally a distraction when operating a tractor. High decibel restrictive hearing devices still allow sensitivity to changes in engine noise or implement production while still providing protection. Solicited opinions don't necessarily coincide w/ expectations. Might be a better thread for the safety forum?

Even with music playing with my ear muffs, I can hear changes in tractor and implement noises.

I've heard many people recommend these. When my current ones need replacing I may give them a try but I like to be plugged in for better sound. Like everything else, I'll compare both to be sure.

I use earbuds when cutting grass, for me it is too sweaty to use my cans.

Sometimes I use foam plugs and after 3 hours in, it is amazing how loud the quiet country is once you remove them

I generally use a 29 or 30 decibel rated pair of muffs AND EAR BUDS. But I don't put the buds in my ears, rather I press them down between the foam and the housing inside the muffs and loop the wire so it doesn't bother me.

I have not tried any true buds without wires like featured here because they are too expensive for me.

I've also got a pair of 3M worktunes w/ BT & radio, I like them because my present cell phone doesn't have FM radio.

I also like the WorkTunes hearing protection with bluetooth. I usually listen to Pandora, and don’t find it to be a distraction.

I also use the Worktunes without bluetooth. They work great for me but the plug in was scratchy so I don't use the plug on my phone. I have a light weight broad brimmed hat I was given when I had a blue light treatment done on my face so I cut a hole in that for my antenna to stick through.

If I was concerned about missing a phone call I would probably get the bluetooth version without the built in radio. That would also eliminate the antenna sticking up.

I like to hear everything going on with the implement and tractor. Little squeaks or groans could turn into more if not attended to. Music would seem a distraction to me.

The worktunes with FM radio does not drown out all the machine noises, not even if you turned the radio up full volume. They reduce the machine sounds by 25 decibels to protect your hearing and they will not play music loud enough to damage your hearing. It's a win win IMO. If I run my open station tractor for any length of time without them my head is buzzing when I get off. Using the hearing protectors and listening to the radio as I work makes my work more enjoyable for me and I get off the tractor more relaxed. Everybody is different in this respect.

The most important thing is protecting your hearing the best you can. I did protect my hearing most of the time growing up.....more than many people, but, I wish I had done better.

I agree 100% The 3m worktunes music volume won't go very loud on purpose, and even at max, you can still hear your tractor just fine (open station).

My only gripe with them so far....wearing my sunglasses with them for extended time, starts to hurt a little bit...but I think a different pair of glasses might fix that.

Worktunes here with Bluetooth. I never miss my wife's "checking in calls" by hearing an annoying ring tone. I can still hear the tune of the tractor engine as well.

I use the 3M peltor yellow. I also use earbuds for audio books while I am on the tractor. Hate the wire on the earbuds. Always tugging or getting hung up on something.

I am going to order a pair of the WorkTunes to give them a try. Thanks for starting the post.

Funny, I was just about to post this very question! I do some shooting and have a pair of electronic muffs. They have microphones that pick up outside sounds but cut out when a loud sound (shotgun) guess off. They also have a plug to connect to my phone. Tried then this afternoon. Problem! Tractor isn't loud enough to trigger the cutoff . All it did was amplify the diesel chatter!
I'll try the Work Tunes!

Another vote here for Bluetooth 3M Worktunes. Not much more to add, but I can say you will not be disappointed.

I have the regular non electronic Peltors, the 28db ones. They're the most comfortable and most effective hearing protectors I've used. If I wanted music I'd get one of their bluetooth models. However those seem to only be 24db.

Generally I am not concerned about missing a call/text/e-mail while I am on the tractor. Heck I am on the tractor to AVOID that stuff.

I don稚 want to compromise hearing protection. But want to listen to music. The 3m solution seems to be the leading contender here. So I値l give those a shot. I may also try another set of cheap ear buds to wear under my current muffs.

I'm pretty sure I could have done better at protecting my hearing as I grew up and now. Some of my favorite TV shows - the actors mumble a lot - I turn up the volume - they mumble louder.

I've tried a lot of different types of protection and generally speaking - I'm not comfortable with any of it. So much of what I do around my property - hearing what is happening is a vital part of doing it safely. Hearing protection saves my hearing but cuts into that finite margin that provides safe operations.
