Chrysler files to prevent importation of Mahindra Jeep

While they are very similar to the Jeeps of old they don't really come close to the JL (or JK) in anyway (including price.) I think it would be a neat vehicle if you could make it street legal even though it is too low speed for highway use. Would be a fun run to town vehicle or drive it from the trail to get something to eat.

Remember it's NOT Chrysler/Fiat - it's Fiat Chrysler.


They didn't just deep-six an American icon, they bought it and now own it and have brought Chrysler quality to Fiat levels. Just like Whirlpool bought Maytag and brought the quality down to Whirlpool levels to cut costs.

I owned a Fiat 128 SL as the first car I bought new in 1975. Decent engine, decent interior. Wheel bearings would go out about every 6,000 miles. Several hundred dollars to replace properly. Learned I needed to replace wheel bearings every other oil change. Apparently things have not changed much

I remember those Fiats. A friend had a pretty new one and a front tie rod just snapped while he was driving. Fixed it, and then the other one snapped.

I miss my Jeep CJ7. I wasn't driving much any more so I sold the extra vehicle......it was fun to drive though.

It happens in the best of families.

My wife backed the (first generation) Taurus out of the driveway then found it steered sideways because of a snapped tie rod. I mailed the parts to NHTSA thinking this might start a recall if they got enough reports.

Cousin - similar with his Taurus, one side broke on the highway and he nearly crashed.

I've wanted a Jeep for years, just cant find one for a decent price that is not rusted out or just stripped to the frame... It does look like the Roxor will be assembled in Detroit from knockdown kits.

Mahindra has been making Jeeps since the 50's. They even marketed them as "Jeep". Today they only make the THAR and a military variant, but over the years they have made a wide range of Jeep derivatives, including a very faithful reproduction of the WWII GPW (the Ford version of the army Jeep). They have maintained a licensing agreement with every company from Willys on down to FCA. I can see where they feel they have a right to sell the ROXOR.

Interestingly, Mitsubishi also license built a lot of Jeep derivatives with production continuing up into the late 90's.

It has a 3490# tow rating -- that is pretty darn good for something classified as a UTV. I bet they will sell a lot of these. Would be handy on a large property or ranch.
