You know the drill, can't find the keys to X. NEED X. Turn over the house and finally find the keys hiding in an unusual area.
I see the Tile product but they are like $25@, and on Amazon there are numerous "key finders" of all sorts.

What I would like is to never misplace stuff. Barring that something so if I get in the same room as the lost item a notification (beep, indicator on my phone, etc)
would probably do.

With the cost of replacement fancy car keys near $100 I've one car that a set of keys were lost for years and we just got by with the Valet key.

So any TBN expertise? What's good, what's not?

Re: Anyone using RFID "tags" or simlar to help find stuff?

Wife says I would lose things if tossed all the keys tools and needed work items in to a #3 wash tub.
Usually can agree when looking for knife

Looking at a Lincoln MKC .they advertise the car will recognize your approach and light up interior. so what about a smart box to let you use any tractor, truck, car you own by your presence then wouldn't need a key . .

I've only got a few places where I put keys so I do pretty good with them but anything on paper is a different story, if I don't put it into a file folder it just vanishes.

I leave the keys where they belong. In the ignition. Problem solved.

I put the keys where I think they belong, in my pocket. never had a problem. I have never "lost" my keys. Never in over 45 years of driving. My daughter loses her keys every time she comes to visit us. When she arrives the first thing she does when she arrives is toss the keyring somewhere. Anywhere, Any end table, bureau, chest of drawers, kitchen counters, kitchen island, ANYWHERE. Of course she never remembers just exactly where she tossed them. So we all "hunt" for her keys.

I put my keys in my pants pocket when I am done using them. NEVER anywhere else. They are always just right there when I need them. When I change pants, I put them in the new clean pair pocket. Right front every time all the time. You will never lose them that way. They are always just right where you would expect them to be.

For those of you that think I am acting all "perfect" and uppity, think about what I have just said. Do you see any flaw in my logic or practice? Where will the keys go if they are always in your pants pocket except when they are in an ignition switch in an actual running vehicle or they are used to open some door. When you have opened a door the first thing you do is put your keys back in your pants pocket. See how easy that is? You will never need an RF id tag to find your keys, because you will KNOW where your keys are at all times. Ain't life grand? :)

I keep a basket on a table in the entryway at both our places. Pickup/house keys go in the basket. Every time. Never have to think where they might be.

There are a lot of other keys. Gates, shop, garage, tractor, trailer, tool boxes, wife's cars, etc. All those keys go in the left rear door pocket of the pickup. Every time. Never have to search for those either.

The answer to the problem for me is consistency.

Sorry James. I usually agree with you, but you are way off this time.

Some of us simply have way too many keys to do this without cargo pockets, and I don't wear cargo pants. And car keys keep getting bigger and bigger.

And when I'm working in the garage, every time I kneel it activates one of my car key fobs, so I always take those out of my pocket and put them on the workbench.

Carry 'em all, all the time? No way!

If they wont fit in your pocket, then the basket sounds like a good idea to me. The point is to know where to look each time every time. Just don't put them anywhere else.

By the way I carry two set, for two cars/trucks, and they are both fob and regular key, and the Chrysler is the fob and key in one thing. .

I used to carry a lot of keys. But at work they condensed that down to access cards and keypad codes... So no keys needed anymore at work, Don't work any more anyway, and I keyed all of the buildings on my property to be keyed alike. I did it myself. I need one key to open any door on any building on the property. I will concede that for you that need to carry a huge wad of keys, maybe the pants pocket is not the answer, but it sure is for me.
