Why are TYM and Branson so much less??

I didn't say it's not a world class engine, but it's certainly not Made in the USA. i agree with the above that the Yanmar and Cummins diesels are top grade. By the way Kukje, who builds the TYM and Branson, also builds Cummins diesels and uses those engines in their tractors.

I'm not saying any are POS tractors, I was just pointing out that it's not made in the USA.

Agree completely, some JD compact tractor chassis’ are made in USA, but not the engines.

Kukje does not build TYM, TYM bought Kukje a little while back and as of now they are still separate Manufacturers that I know of. Most likely TYM bought them for the engines they make. Not sure when they will be in TYM built tractors. It probably depends on their agreement with Yanmar, which is also a great engine.

So much confusion about "who owns who" and "who builds what" and "where." I researched it quite a bit (I was curious) but it's still hard to nail down... I think part of that is deliberate obfuscation on the part of some tractor makers.

You are correct, Kukje does not build TYM, and TYM recently bought Kukje "and all their assets." So Kukje is now a wholly owned subsidiary of TYM. Apparently TYM bought Kukje to acquire their substantial manufacturing capabilities, which allowed them to become "the largest tractor manufacturer in Korea," a stated corporate goal of TYM. Kukje was a highly regarded Korean manufacturer. So is TYM. It seems likely TYM will decide the future of Kukje's former brand (Branson).

Even that is not really clear.

The Branson Global website just refers to it as a "acquisition as a group". And this happened in 2016 and I have yet to see anything that proves that TYM actually owns Branson by changing anyting in the Branson tractors, unless TYM is now building tractors the way Branson does, which is a lot stronger and heavier duty.

In fact, over here, the importer for the Branson tractors is totally different than the importer of the TYM tractors. Actually, they are direct competition to each other.

The dealers that sell Branson, won't sell TYM and who sells TYM won't sell Branson.

If TYM really owned Branson, I would imagine they would try to join things together, even if they still keep Branson brand alive. They pretty much just act as a group that actually seems quite separate.

I guess you'd have to read the contract docs to be sure. :) I read an earlier article that sounded like they were trying to do some kind of merger. However, a more recent article stated that TYM ended up buying Kukje outright, including all their assets, and that they are now a wholly owned subsidiary of TYM. I certainly hope it was part of the deal that Kukje continues to make Branson tractors, at least for a while. Perhaps TYM values the Branson brand and simply wanted to bring it under their wing. Time will tell!

TYM and Branson both came out with 19hp subcompact/riding mowers earlier this year. From pictures and specs they look like they could be the same with different paint and stickers. But the engine is a Yanmar. Could be because Kukje did not make engines that small.

I'm wondering if the mother ship (TYM) will keep 2 brands, 2 manufacturing facilities, 2 sets of overhead, etc. I don't think it will happen tomorrow, but I could see the following take place ...

Year
1-5....two brands... TYM and Branson
6 ...single brand ....TYM/Branson
7....................TYM/Branson
8................. TYM/Branson
9........ TYM

Granted, this is pure speculation on my part, but this scenario is not so different from other companies being bought out. One would think that if this did happen, they would combine the best of both brands and continue parts support. I have seen company logos /brands follow that same path. If Branson (or TYM for that matter) are serious about their futures, they will amp up their parts availability, online parts look ups, etc. and get more dealers like Dave's Tractor.

Branson owners seem to like their tractors and that's cool. I'm just saying that corporations do what corporations do.

Yes they do

but Maybe TYM is counting on customers continuing to buy the Bransons... Customers who want or demand the heaviest built tractor they can get in a certain size/hp range.

That doesn't seem to safeguard the lighter series that Branson sells against similar sized TYMs though.

I do think their heavy built models will continue to see demand because some people want a heavy built machine.
