Did you feel the little earthquake a bit before midnight? Was centered between Leesburg and Sterling, right on the Potomac. Might not be that close to you.

That would be about 30 miles from me.

Goos Morning!!!! 70 F @ 6:00AM. Sunny to partly cloudy. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High 94F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.

Kyle, quite a while ago my Internist prescribed Triamclnolone Acetonide cream 0.1% for a pretty bad case of poison oak, and I asked him for a 90 day supply. I'm still using it, and it works pretty well. I use one of those natural sponges, the long, tubular ones, to scrub with a gentle soap (I like Neutrogena Rainbath) under as hot a water as I can stand. Pat dry and use that towel only for the areas effected by the rash. Put the cream on, thick enough to cover it white, and keep rubbing until it disappears into the skin. Then I wash my hands and go through the day more or less comfortably. I run through the cleansing morning and night, and sleep in long sleeves or tights to keep the stuff from spreading via the sheets. Takes me about a month for my skin to exfoliate all of the oil out (that's the only way you can get rid of it). I can't think of one reason why poison plants evolved urushiol, since it offers no immediate protection and most animals aren't sensitive to it, but there it is anyway.

I learned the same lesson about pulling from an angle with the tractor, even if it was just the end of the bucket or box blade. That's how I learned to do things s-l-o-w-l-y so I had time to react if/when things went sideways/up-in-the-air. And I've got one of those grub chains hanging in the garage, and the paint is all faded to a pale greenish yellow. I've used it once or twice, but end up just using a log chain with hooks on each end most of the time because they're longer and hold on almost as well. And they're a heck of a lot easier to take off. But there have been times where the log chain just wouldn't stay put, and it's grubber to the rescue...

Those are nice looking boots, Don, but if I got a pair of dancing boots it would have to have two lefts in it.

CalFire released their analysis of the deaths related to the Carr Fire in and near Redding, CA yesterday. It contains minute-by-minute event chains that led to each incident, and links to videos showing the horrifying fire tornado. Hard to imagine what those men went through. He11 on earth.

Are you all sitting down? I drove my van yesterday! Not far, but in traffic far enough to get a tank of gas and get back to the mechanic's shop. It goes, shifts and stops, it steers straight, turns easily, and visibility is outstanding. I'm very rusty on the standard transmission, but I didn't grind any gears or even have trouble finding the one I wanted. The throttle cable was misadjusted causing a high idle, and air in the cooling system had it running hot, but I don't think it'll be long before it'll be sitting in the driveway. Took two and a half hours at the DMV before that to pay the registration and get a temporary sticker, but now there's no more excuses not to get it in for the smog check. I'm going down there this morning to hook the instrument cluster back up and trouble shoot the non-working temperature and fuel gauges (they were working previously, and once again, nobody seems to know what happened :pullinghair: Paid off the helper with a case of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for staying long enough to get it running, and if I have to, I'll be down there every day next week until is't smogged. Then the real fun begins with doing the interior...

Stopped by the mechanic's one time partner, who has now set up a shop and has hired all the same guys fired by the mechanic. It was after closing time, but his weldor, who I hadn't met and never worked for the mechanic, was getting ready to put a pop top he'd cut off another van onto one that didn't have one, the same job I did a couple years ago on my van. He'd made a few mistakes that can be fixed with some work and grinding, but not a bad job for first time around. But the most striking thing is that all of the tools were neatly put away, there were no parts or tools scattered all over the floor to trip over, and everything was CLEAN! And I know that the mechanic's aware of it, because his one and only drive in my van went to that shop. He just doesn't get how to properly manage a business or people. The former partner was thinking about hiring the mechanic (he really is smart), but I told him I just didn't know how that could ever work. Just glad to be getting my van out of that situation and put that whole episode behind me.

TGIF gang!:drink:

It was 45° for the low this morning. We did get one of those showers yesterday, about 2/10 of a inch. The first morning in a couple of weeks without any smoke in the sky. I can see the mountains south of us. Today is going to be back in the mid 80's and still a chance of showers.

Have to make another trip to town today to pay a bill. I had taken my truck into have some work done and picked it up yesterday. But there wasn't anyone there to figure the bill out. Told them I would be back today to take care of it.

It looks like a good day to start the weekend.
CWB.

Good morning to all! Low of 52°, going up to 88 today. Good 60% chance of storms today, heavy rain possible under the slow moving storms. We got 0.9" last 24 hours. We really needed it, hopefully some more today. Drying out for 3 days, then another good chance starting next Tuesday.

Have to go into work for about 4 hours this afternoon to teach a brief class, then the new people "graduate" and get sworn in / badging ceremony. Won't be too bad.

Then, 3, maybe 4 days off. Going to try and tackle some projects this weekend. The knee seems to be in a state of limbo....stays swollen all the time, gets worse after standing / walking, then decreases just a little overnight. Wakes me up about every 2 hours with pain, needs to be repositioned. Doc wouldn't pull any more fluid off, or inject any more steroids. He says it is too soon between injections. Next appointment is mid September.

PJ--- HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! Hope your CD makes it big.

Drew, hope your epidural injection goes smoothly and you get some relief.

Hawkeye, hope the wifey's ankle gets better...I know what she's going through...not fun.

Ed, I hope your shoulder feels better and pain is short lived.

Randy, cheer up, lots of folks pulling for you.

Buppies, maybe the change in your insulin dose is causing your change in sleep habits?

Thomas, neat to hear about your daily wildlife interactions, any pics of Mrs fox?

Everyone have a great day and start to the weekend. Prayers out to those needing, hope everyone needing healing does so quickly.

78°F and light rain this morning, going up to 86° today. Expecting more rain this afternoon.

Wife said some overnight storms woke her a couple of times, but I slept right through them.

Congrats on the Vanagon progress, RNG. Seems it truly is a light at the end of the tunnel after all.

Rng, thanks for the write up on poison oak. Sounds like a full time job dealing with it. Last time I took Prednisone and it went away. I may have some acetonide in the drawer.

Congrats on the van. Good thing I was sitting down. I'm at the walk in clinic for the poison ivy and I just saw a man with a cane fall over outside. They sent a team and a wheel chair, but he insisted to get in his car and let his wife drive him away.

Ls, I had to keep moving my knees for months to keep them from hurting.

Hi, I have an appointment at 10:15.
Yes sir, uh, we don't have any appointment for you in our system.
Look again please, I spent half an hour with your nurse last week getting vetted and she made the appointment.
Oh, only scheduling can make appointments.
Well, someone did, can he help me today?
No sir, he is too busy.
Would you like to reschedule.
No.

So I wasted my time, my friend's time, and got home in a fine tizzy. But, no I didn't save money with Geico today...but I raced out with my trash can which I had forgotten to take out that morning, and as I got to the end of the lane, the trash truck arrived. Rolled it to him, dumped, and back it went.
Not that is better timing!

This is the second time in four years this hospital chain has done this to me, huge offices, too many people, you get lost in the proverbial shuffle.
Now going to try one man office who only sees one patient at a time. That sounds better than being cow number 16 in the herd.

Scheduler looks at me and confirmed that everything I said was correct, including the call last week, but that no one had entered the appointment apparently. She apologized, fine, not her fault. But I won't go back. Miss Daisy said I was very pleasant with the woman even if my face was getting red... Half a day shot, oh well. I actually wanted to go to the other guy, so maybe this is fortuitous. Thanks for good wishes.

92 out, think I may start painting the gazebo. Going to stay in the shade and do the easy parts. Oil paint, sticky...

would you believe our local Lowes no longer sells any oil based paint in gallons except for porch and deck paint? They had a quart of white oil paint for 22.95. Geez, such a deal, no thank you. Someone in there told me quietly go to Sherwin Williams store down the block, they still carry it.
