My daughter has designated herself as the official namer of all things worthy of names. She names everything from our cows to our cars. Her car even has it's own facebook page, and it has more friends than my facebook page. My tractor was stuck with the name "Mortimer".
I haven't read all the replies, and so maybe someone already said something like this, but I think it's dangerous to name a vehicle. It anthropomorphizes them...and then subsconsciously you think they care about not running over you or busting through a wall and chopping your leg off. They are humor-less pieces of metal that would feel the same about dismembering your family dog as they would running over a stump.![]()
My 1969 Ford 2000 is called "blue".I have this goofy theory. Cars that have names last longer.
Maybe it's because people who name their vehicles are more involved in its upkeep. Maybe it is a Karma thing, (or a Carma thing).
Do some people name their tractors?
What did you name your tractor? Why?

My Lady friend call my tractor simply the "Deere" which I have indicated bothers me. Like abbreviating things because you are too lazy to say two words and would prefer one. Then I would prefer she call it the 6200.
The R510 is the Kubota Monster.
I use the model numbers on the John Deere's; 40, 314, 755 & 790. Then there's "PK" & "Cubby": View attachment 567636

What a couple of good looking and timeless tractors.
My kids wanted to name it Johnny, but I vetoed that ...too stereotypical. I'd only name it that if it was made from 1918 through 1960 2 cylinder model and it's full name could be Johnny Popper.
I told them it's name was Tug.
...but never called it anything other than "The Tractor".
...regarding not naming them because "It anthropomorphizes them...and then subsconsciously you think they care about not running over you or busting through a wall and chopping your leg off. Hmmm... interesting point...but we also name bulls and stallions and the neighbors dog who would do the same.
IMHO, I think we can name them, anthropomorphizes them even, but the same as "people" who are our friends and fine 99% of the time, they can still be cold blooded psychopathic killers.
I call it by its given name. JoHn deere , new holland , ford, 35 ferguson , backhoe , kubota .... you get the drift . Why would anyone name a tractor ???????
