Another Predator Engine Swap

Question .....
I had planned on swapping the engine of a chipper shredder a few years back. I got the thing in the early 90s and it has a 5HP Briggs on it that died. Problem was the HF engines had a smaller shaft than the Briggs (3/4" vs 1" if I remember right), so I would have needed an adapter. I found a few for cheap, but the sellers couldn't assure me they would take the stresses of a chipper/shredder, so I never did it. Do any of their newer horizontal shaft engines have a 1" shaft?

I've got an older Greyhound on a mower. Tempermental getting started at times, but once running it does fine. I can hear it bog and adjust itself back up to speed if I get into taller grass.

I wouldn't be afraid of any 3/4" or 1" .

That's where I bought mine mentioned above. $299 delivered w/ electric start. They should have the size you're looking for.

It's not the shaft size on the engine. It's the adapter between the HF engine and the shredder I'm wondering about. If the new HF engines have a 1" shaft, I won't need any adapter.

You'd have to look at the specs on each individual Predator engine. The 6.5hp one I have was 3/4" shaft, and so was the BS engine it replaced. So, it was a direct bolt-in replacement with no adaptors, drilling, etc...
I think I saw their 13hp engine had a 1" shaft.
It's easy enough to look up. Go to Harbor Freight. Select an engine. Go to the tab that offered links to the manuals for the engine and it'll list the shaft size for that engine.

On fuel/carburetor issues, with crummy fuel we have now a days, I usually shut off gas at tank (or empty tank) and run engine till its out of fuel (carb bowl)... Seems to save the crud/corrosion from building up in carb and causing problems...
Recently picked up a used Honda WX15 water pump for $40... Would not run, removed carb cleaned all the jets and passages caused by crummy fuel, runs like a champ now
.... Saved $460 over cost of new one...
I know discussion was on Predator engines, but even at the very low price, this simple step may save you some headaches....

I recently bought a Snapon rolling tool chest from someone. To sweeten the deal (or get rid of his trash?) he threw in an air compressor, generator and a plethora of tools.
Looked at the air compressor and it has the predator engine on it.
He later explained that it had an electric motor which burned out so he replaced it with a gas engine.
I probably pulled on that SOB for 20 minutes, fearing the entire time the (vertical) air compressor (with twin cylinders) would topple over....
Then.... I realized I was being a dufas.... I looked around a bit (I had already turned the switch on) BUT.... in my haste to show my stupidity.... I neglected to turn the fuel petcock on...
Now that I know to turn the fuel on (duh!), it's a 2-3 pull starter.
