Theft Ring Busted

It appears the volume of break-ins, stolen farm equipment and larceny has increased all over rural America. Earlier this month thieves stole a lot from our farm. This marks the 4th time. Sheriff deputy suggested we get and hide some wildlife cameras around. Thing is
trail-cameras use Infrared to illuminate at night. Thieves know this. They also know any digital camera including dumb phone cameras can see infrared light. The thieves simply walk around setting off the trail-cam infrared illuminators and steal them too. Better yet, thieves go out and get a Infrared monocular for around $100.00. It can see the trail-cam infrared flash extremely well. It's like a beacon leading them right to your trail-cam. At a $100.00+ a pop, thieves are stealing us blind!

We've been very lucky on our road. Not certain if it's because certain times of the year it can sound like a war zone with all the shooting going on with semi auto rifles LOL

Perhaps it's just me, but if I were a thief, I'd much prefer stealing from the suburbs as my line of thinking would be that there would be a less likely chance of being shot because I'd figure everyone would have at least a 12 gauge sitting by the door.

Did have this happen a while ago not too far away...

Article said was struck by a bullet from assault rifle, then mentioned neighbor surrendered an AR-15 one being very expensive capable of full automatic fire, the other a fairly common relatively inexpensive. Sad way to leave the earth.

It seems to me that there is a lot more rural crime than there ever was. When I was growing up, I can't remember any crime of any kind; outside of one of the kids breaking a church window with a rock; although he wasn't throwing at the window. Now, there seems to be more city types moving to the country and cooking meth in their trailer houses. My little community had its first murder in recent memory...over drugs.

The demographics are certainly changing. I never saw a tattoo, let alone a prison tattoo, when I was growing up, except a cousin who was a WWII Navy vet. Last car show I went to in that area was scary; half the crowd looked like something out of Deliverance...nothing like Saturday in the 1950's. No straw hats, brogans and overalls to be seen.

"Sad way to live a life", invading folks homes. We all leave the earth. Invading folks homes ends the story.

Old school folks have witnessed the decline in common appreciation for goodwill. In my humble opinion, Meth and other drug users have greatly contributed to this decline. Local news accounts are full of good folks being terrorized, and are afraid to leave their homes. Then we see Gov. towing the line for gun registration, permit activists. Then these activists take the gov. required conceal carry data and publish folks location for the thieves to see where the weapons are located. These seem to be the same people who whine when a home invader has met their maker.

The article mentioned assault rifle, those are capable of full automatic, then mentioned AR-15, that is a rifle capable of semi-automatic fire, you have to pull the trigger each time to fire a round. One is not like the other. Pretty simple.

I meant, a sad way to leave the earth while being a stealing scum bag.

I forget that most people cant read my mind, even as simple as it is.

OK, I'll apologize for misreading your comment,
I wish I could afford the expenses and hassle of obtaining a full auto,
but I can go through too much $$$ in shells in an afternoon with my semi-auto's and levers and pumps.

I had the opportunity to purchase a fully automatic rifle back in the mid 80s from a retired state police officer. I forget what make/model, etc... it was. All I remember is going to his gravel pit, me pointing it downrange, squeezing the trigger and BRRRRRRRRPPPP!!!! I just spent $20. That was a lot to me, back then. The rifle was $600. He said he could get me all the proper permits, papers, etc... for another $600. I passed.

It was fun. But I had no practical use for it back then. Today, if I came across the same deal, I'd probably pass as well. Fun, though.
