It appears the volume of break-ins, stolen farm equipment and larceny has increased all over rural America. Earlier this month thieves stole a lot from our farm. This marks the 4th time. Sheriff deputy suggested we get and hide some wildlife cameras around. Thing is
trail-cameras use Infrared to illuminate at night. Thieves know this. They also know any digital camera including dumb phone cameras can see infrared light. The thieves simply walk around setting off the trail-cam infrared illuminators and steal them too. Better yet, thieves go out and get a Infrared monocular for around $100.00. It can see the trail-cam infrared flash extremely well. It's like a beacon leading them right to your trail-cam. At a $100.00+ a pop, thieves are stealing us blind!
We've been very lucky on our road. Not certain if it's because certain times of the year it can sound like a war zone with all the shooting going on with semi auto rifles LOL
Perhaps it's just me, but if I were a thief, I'd much prefer stealing from the suburbs as my line of thinking would be that there would be a less likely chance of being shot because I'd figure everyone would have at least a 12 gauge sitting by the door.
Did have this happen a while ago not too far away...
