That has to be the Mazda M5R2 5 speed transmission. If it were. BorgWarner T18 pr T19, the stick would have a bend just right out the the top of the boot. A rare possibility would be someone could have swapped in a ZF5 transmission, which has a granny first gear and has overdrive.

So far people who have ridden in truck including my blue oval neighbor friend who's has/had many thinks it's geared low. I honestly believe gears haven't been changed, they would have to change both differentials, 4x4.
The motor "roars"...but the clutch fan is locked up...and one blade the end is bent out some.
I got a new one, and rented removal kit...but still haven't broken the 40mm nut loose!
Ford had a nutty idea with that, maybe to keep fan from ever going into radiator.

Is the nut right or left handed threads?

The truck keeps sounding like a better and better deal.

It's fixed! It's quiet, smooth. New fan clutch you can move fan blade smoothly and it has a little but not much resistance. Two auto parts stores gave me 36mm clutch but this is 40mm.
Loaner tools were pretty useless, but after trying everything I got old one off easily with an air hammer. Chisel tip, I put it on nut edge shown, it spun it right off.
New one after cleaning threads I used lock tight and installed right as I could by hand. I put on a new serpentine belt.
Runs like a top!

It's a four speed tranny. I'll put a tachometer on it but driving down the road at 55mph it's quiet, not roaring like it was, sounds like 2k rpm if that...3.55 ratio sounds right.

Took a bit of air-hammer sweat, but as new-old truck fixes goes, that was a pretty inexpensive one.

P.S. - just for giggles, once you've gone through tune-up basics, pls post the mileage you're getting over a couple of tanks <- one of the lesser careabouts for work-truck use, but I'm curious to see how the 'ol 6 w. stick stacks up against the "modern" stuff....

This is a flashlight picture up the tailpipe (The truck, not me).
It runs so smooth I won't bother with tune up for now. We just test drove it about 30 miles or so. I'll check mpg...my guess , highway, 55mph...18-20?

I've always been a sucker for guns and trucks.

I just bought a new F-250 XL. It's a 2017, Crew Cab, long bed, 6.7L Powerstroke, automatic. Basically a work truck which is what I wanted with few options. It has vinyl floors but does have power windows/door locks/mirrors/tailgate. I wanted the 3.33 rear end because I don't tow any significant weight and the highway mileage is better. It's averaging 18.4 combined so far.

It took a while to find a new 2017 in July of 2018 equipped the way I wanted. But, we found one. Sticker was $52,965 and I paid $42,965. Yeah, that's still a lot of money but it's a lot of truck. I had a good trade and waited for the right deal. I've owned a lot of trucks - probably over 20 in the last 30 years - and this is likely my favorite. If it had a SiriusXM capable radio it would be perfect. But that was an easy fix.

That 6.7L is a blast (literally) to drive.

You turn your trucks over fast, so won't be an issue for you ID..... personally, I'd much sooner maintain Fuddy's I6 truck any day...... much goes wrong in the 6.7L engine bay, and you are pulling the cab off, and you have a fairly complex emission system to maintain as well on the 6.7L. I like a manual transmission for personal vehicles, but I will say I prefer the Super Duty automatics to the ones in modern F150s.

If you are not towing, well, then this 6.7L is a rocket truck - enjoy the ride ! :thumbsup:

Too bad small trucks and manual transmissions are becoming more and more uncommon. The "small" trucks of the day are the same size as the old full size.

I know I'm not normal, but they need to at least offer pint size 4cyl pickups like the old Mitsubishi mighty max and S10 or Ranger. They'd get better gas mileage and would be much cheaper. Not all of us need to tow, but it's nice to have a bed for small farm/home loads.
