I left the cap off the end of my can when I filled it up. It has rained over 2 inches this past weekend. Do you think enough got down a 5/8 tube into 5 gallons of fuel to worry about?

just pour it slow and it will stay in bottom of the can . dump the pint you have left on a piss ant bed

A great product for water in diesel is a Mr. Funnel. It will not allow water to pass, as well a catch larger contaminants.
I’ve been burned once with water contaminated fuel... it can be a real pain.

I've got a bright shiny yellow - Mr Funnel. I got it about twelve years ago - tried it - works great but I've never had any water in my diesel fuel. Used if for about two months and then quit. Just an added pain to fueling up.

To check for water in my three Jerry cans - I did what M5farms suggests. Except the last pint or so - I poured off into a one gallon clear glass jug. Close examination revealed not even little tiny droplets of water anywhere within the diesel fuel.

I still use Power Service both summer and winter.

I bought the Mr. Funnel a year ago....use it every fillup. Plus I use Howse fuel treatment ....1 ounce per 5 gal. can. Cheap preventive maintenance !

Another vote for Mr Funnel. I have one each for gas and for diesel. They are a bit messy to use due to a sort of collection well below the actual filter element. I can usually pour most of the fuel back into the storage can and let water or 'crumbs' just stay in the funnel to be shaken out later and evaporate. I use poly lid from an old metal coffee can or Tupperware to keep detritus out of the funnels between pours.

I'd much rather waste a few oz/cents-worth of fuel than invite trouble by pouring the unknown into my tanks. btw, the only vehicle I struggle to fuel-up easily is the Mechron 2200. It's angled filler opening requires holding a curved trans funnel below the Mr F and a slow pour to get it all in vs on the machine. Nice to have help for that, but also nice to get 20-some hrs/tankful, so it's not an everyday task. :) t o g

If it were me I wouldn't put any of it into the fuel tank, 5 gallons of fuel isn't worth the trouble it might cause..

I'm dealing with that very thing right now, you wouldn't believe the crap I've cleaned out of my tank. It isn't the water, but the microbes that thrive in the environment between the water and fuel. They eventually will form a film that will clog your filters.
