Bizarre accident in Oregon

I once asked a girl why she had a barb wire tatoo around her Bicep. She said she was hurt! I think that guy should get one. It would be so PERFECT!

While some of the safety features on my tractor are annoying at times, I'm glad for them. I don't leave the PTO running while off the tractor for anything except my 3pt backhoe. I don't have a wood splitter or chipper yet. I don't know why anyone would leave PTO running for mower though, just too much to go wrong.

I'm glad it turned out ok for him.

I've got 80 acres. Mainly - two lakes and bunch grass and ancient Ponderosa pines. No need what-so-ever for a bush hog - and I'm more glad every day. If I had one of those thing on the back of my open station tractor - I'd probably run over something that would get thrown back and be the end of me.

The report indicates he was not using a brush hog.

It was a flail mower. They are used to clear hazelnut orchards before harvest. They have a reputation for being safer than brush hogs.

You finally got it, I said it was not a brush hog.

I worry a lot about wire wraping in my mower and roping me or anything else into it.

Love that he worked for another half hour only stopping after his shirt soaked through. Tough guy! ... and darn lucky

Accidents happen. We are all human, nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes at one time or another but most not as serious. It has nothing to do with being "in their right mind".

If I'm getting off the tractor and the PTO is running I'm throwing the PTO lever off, no ifs ands or buts about it. I've already clutched in to stop and it takes a split second to do.

If I'm doing anything around the attachment, I'll go the extra step to shut down the whole machine.

We had a thread a while back about this where the split was 50/50 on this saying PTO can't engage unless you're on the tractor. It wasn't until more than a few people showed up who'd lost fingers, hands or knew people who did that it seems like we cleared that up.

Working around a live flail mower isn't a mistake, it's straight up negligence.
