Hi, I'm needing advice on a John Deere MX 8 mower. I saw this site in my search and thought it may be helpful for a variety of reasons.

Concerning the MX 8 mower, t has a single acting hydraulic cylinder to lift the rear wheels. When the hydraulic cylinder is fully extended, hydraulic oil spews out the plug at the end of the cylinder. I am needing ideas on what exactly could be wrong and what is needed to fix this problem.

Thank you.

I’m guessing it doesn’t have gland seals or very good ones and the rod seals are shot. When you deadhead the cylinder the oil pushes past the worn seals.

Welcome to the forum!

I'm going to move this thread over to our John Deere section.

Don't mean to hijack thread, but related questions: Does the "back side" of a single action cylinder, that doesn't normally see pressurized fluid, need to be vented?
Can a double action cylinder be made into a single action cylinder by using one line? If so, does the "inactive side" need to be vented or plugged?

A pic will help see what you refer to here, but there should be no fluid spewing out.. More specifics will help answer your question.

A double acting cyl can be utilized as a single acting cylinder by removing one hose & installing a breather.

Ditto cyl piston seals have failed.
