Heck, some days around here you have to stop on the road and wait cause the good ol' boys got their pickup trucks chained *ss to *ss having a tug-o-war in the street in front of The Tavern.

Funniest thing I saw was turning up a road and here comes a tractor towing a boat (with no trailer under it) right down the road. About a 1/2 dozen people in the boat, with a sun umbrella and some cool drinks (maybe w/ bathing suits?). Who says you need a lake for a boat ride?!

I drive the tractor with loader and 60" rotary cutter 3.5 miles to my father in laws about once a month. There is a local bar in between, so if it is hot out I stop and park the tractor in the bar lot and go in for a couple cold libations

I used to road tractors about 2-3 miles at a farm I worked on in my 20s, mostly hauling wagons either empty or full of horseradish. It was an area where only about 4 or 5 farmers lived, with one way in and out, so no "passing though" traffic at all. We never had any problems.

I've driven our new tractor about 1/2 mile down the road on one occasion a couple of years ago. Can't say I cared for it, as we have a lot more traffic in our area, and they all think they're Richard Petty. Now, it only goes on the road to get from one side of the property to the other. Like Doofy, I purposely didn't buy a bigger trailer so I wouldn't have to haul it all over to everyone who says, "Hey, can you bring your tractor over and (insert job here)?"

I enjoy helping people but I draw the line when there are folks trying to make a Living doing the same thing they want me to do for free. I didnt buy my tractor to hire out...I bought it to putter around the old homestead and make my life easier.

I drive my Yanmar LX 7.4 miles across town once a year to work at my Mom's house. The roads are a mix of rural, 4-lane, and residential. I transport most of the implements separately on a flat bed truck, I don't think I'd want to do it with a bush hog hanging off the back. Occasionally I carry a box blade. It takes me about 45 minutes, top speed is 16mph.

I don't make a living farming, so I probably wouldn't qualify for the state exemptions that allow unregistered tractors on the road. To not attract unwanted LEO attention I travel early mornings on weekends so I don't backup heavy traffic. I have crossed paths with the local LE vehicles and haven't had any issues, I've even gotten a few waves.

Generally I enjoy the drive, and even stop to eat a donut along my way:

For me, hitching the trailer takes as much or more time than loading and chaining. I want a back up camera so bad....

Katahdin, I love the picture. Great stuff. I get some weird looks at the Love's truck stop every time I go fill up. So many people coming off I-85 and I'm guessing some have never seen a tractor before. I usually get asked a question or two while there.

my wife got me a backup camera last year for fathers day, man it makes hooking up SOOOO much easier. I hard wired it to a switch on the dash so I could turn it on when I want, not just when ever it's in reverse. good thing it doesn't take much juice, I have been known to forget about it being on....

I'm not trying to make a living with it, if I can do about 3 hours a week, that's enough to pay the payment and cover fuel. Around here, the guys who do it "for a living" don't want to fool with a small job, so I'm not taking any money away from them. I know this because for a time when I was in between tractors, I couldn't find anyone who wanted to do a few hours worth of work at all. So I basically just want to be able to pay the payment, so I can putter around the homestead and make my life easier, and not hurt my bank account any more than I have to

Sweet! A back-up camera is on my Christmas Wish List. Is yours wired or wireless? Would really strong magnetic mounts affect the picture? I want to be able to move the cameras around, depending on the project at hand.

I was on my BIL's farm when each of three new JD combines were delivered over the years,,
in each case, the machine was driven the 40+ miles from the dealer to the farm.

Then, twice a year, the combine was driven to the rental land to harvest 300 acres,, about 25 miles away,,
Moving the combine was always nerve wracking,,, it was the widest machine that we moved,,,

mines wireless, except for the power leads. one thing I learned quick, is I painted the hitches on my trailers white so they'd show up better. and if you're backing into the sun, forget it....

this one has the mount that goes over the license plate, but it's holes so you have to take the plate off to move it around. I did put on some quick connects and run a set of power wires under my camper and fixed a mount in the middle of the bumper so I could use it when backing into a camping spot. Then she got me a go pro, and I stuck one of the extra mounts on the side of the camera and I can monitor it with my tablet on the console and it's a lot bigger screen.

I like the idea of a magnet mount though, that could be handy

Hahahaha. The "Pucker Factor" is immense. I helped move some 28' wide portable classrooms 75 miles on a two lane highway with few shoulders or pullouts.
