It is not just JD,had a friend with a new Case 120 that quit in the field had had to wait for a "tech" to show up.
Better have a back-up tractor if you really need it done now.

A friend that runs a Tractor Dealership advised the new tractors are beyond the abilities of a "Shade Tree Expert". His question was who pays for the 20-30 thousand dollars of damage "Shade Tree" did and is wanting "Warranty Repairs". This is the reason we are seeing the MOM - POP store disappearing. Dealership Pay scale will not allow them to hire the "Tech's" needed to work on the new stuff. He advised the large multiple store Companies only have a couple of experienced Tech's and dispatch them on a company wide basis. So your $400,000 dollar combine may sit for a couple of days in the field before a Tech arrives.

The sad part about what John Deere and others are doing is that all of the necessary diagnostics could be built into the software of the implement. You shouldn't need a "tech" to come and diagnose.

Not really. Or any consumer electronics either.

In any event, this is old news. If you don't like the way JD does business, there are other brands out there. If they lose enough business because of this maybe they'll change their policy.

The main problem in fixing equipment is a dealer can only fix 20% of machines that are down in a reasonable time frame. This is because every farmer works according to the weather. Consequently the breakdowns all happen approximately at the same time frame. The dealer is overwhelmed. Now the farmer needs to get the parts and or software and fix the equipment or buy a replacement. This is not a good business model for the farmer. Farmers are resourceful but being locked out of their own equipment is diabolical.

You don't, the diagnostic software is available to ALL end users, just have to pay for it....just like the dealers.
