Well, there is "rops" and then there is "ROPS". Not sure the NHTSA or its AG equivalent would approve of that one. Not that I see anything deficient, but I doubt any testing was done...

I came across a regulatory standard plan set for older Ford tractors...

Maybe, with so many around the idea came about to develop a standard plan set to bring about increased safety?

I saw a converted Ford back in Michigan about 15 years ago. It was for sale near Fowlerville... Hopefully some collector picked it up and restored it. It was pretty rough, but appeared functional. IIRC, it used an 8-lug Dana 60 or 70 front axle... The drive came off the side of the trans, like the OP's.

My Sherman Napco has what looks very similar to a Dana 44 closed knuckle front axle and six lug wheels that look very similar to the original tractor front wheels but they are different. The other conversion for fifties Fords was the Elenco conversion which used surplus Power Wagon front axles. The Elenco conversion has five lug front wheels. I also have an Elenco on a project tractor.

Only the 860 is retired lol. I still run a snowblower, but now I do it in the heated cab of a Kubota B3030 with a front mount snowblower.
