Well, there is "rops" and then there is "ROPS". Not sure the NHTSA or its AG equivalent would approve of that one. Not that I see anything deficient, but I doubt any testing was done...

I saw a converted Ford back in Michigan about 15 years ago. It was for sale near Fowlerville... Hopefully some collector picked it up and restored it. It was pretty rough, but appeared functional. IIRC, it used an 8-lug Dana 60 or 70 front axle... The drive came off the side of the trans, like the OP's.

My Sherman Napco has what looks very similar to a Dana 44 closed knuckle front axle and six lug wheels that look very similar to the original tractor front wheels but they are different. The other conversion for fifties Fords was the Elenco conversion which used surplus Power Wagon front axles. The Elenco conversion has five lug front wheels. I also have an Elenco on a project tractor.

Ok, here's another 4x4. This one in a 2n but don't let that ferguson tag fool you it's actually made from the front axle off a jeep wagoneer and the gear box off a brushog mower.
