Apparently Amazon is the evil empire out to rule the world. Who knew?

No one said that. They are an innovative company that identified and invested in the emerging trend of online shopping before others did. They have made a lot of smart decisions along the way. Like most companies, they will continue to try to crush the competition. That's what businesses do; they compete. It's not evil; it's just business.

My concern as a consumer, is that it is ultimately bad for us when any one company becomes too dominant. And it's definitely bad for the smaller online retailers.

All I'm saying is don't automatically assume you will get the best price or buying experience from Amazon. We ship same-day too. Our packages arrive in 2 days too. And when you call us, you talk to a real live person who actually cares. Not all small etailers can do this, but some can and do.

Or, I'll 'buy on web and pick up in store'. If they find they don't have something, they call me and ask if I want to cancel or have them order it and let me know when it arrives. I can also sometimes get better discounts by using web-only coupons or promos.

We ordered a dehumidifier for my in-laws through Walmart with free in-store pickup. Was supposed to be at the Walmart in 5 days. It showed up in 2 days..... on our front steps!

Before heading to work early one Friday I ordered an orange safety vest for my dog, from a small company in Kingfield ME. It took 45 minutes for me to get the shipping confirmation/ tracking number, and it arrived in my mailbox the next day. Amazon never beat that one.

I remember when folks were pissed when the big box stores started taking out all the mom and pop stores, now Amazon is taking out many of the box stores so I guess what goes around comes around. So whats next, will Alibaba take down Amazon or some other new shopping technology like 3d printing goods from the comfort of our own homes.

With all the doom and gloom about sears, i ordered online from them last night. Only $15.99 for slow shipping (1 week).

One that i know of, and they paid it back. the govt didnt step in and take them over like another regime did with GM.
The first was in 1979, the second was in 2009.

Forgot about the 2009 one then, wonder why Gov didnt take them over along with GM.

I had to chuckle based on this conversation, my Amazon box was delivered today, with several packages of flavored fig newtons, a box of tea, and a beautifully bubble wrapped bottle of olive oil from France. One that a certain TBN member makes. And nothing else in the box, so the heavier
bottle of olive oil wanged into the shock absorbing boxes of newtons and tea, and the boxes came through a bit worse for the wear.
Not one iota of packing material, just your every day lapidary tumbler special.
Everything was fine though.

I've bought my appliances from Sears for 30 years. Now they are becoming just a tarnished secondary name, tools peddled in local Lowes,
I doubt any of their appliances are built here in the US any more. So when I needed a washer and dryer, I bought Maytags with the American flags on them, saying built here. Sorry Kenmore, you've become the next Oldsmobile or Pontiac.

I sure wouldn't think of buying a large appliance online, Amazon or otherwise.
Maybe I'll have to rethink that.

The Kenmore upright freezer that I bought just 12 months ago was made by Gibson (Frigidaire) and assembled in USA. The Frigidaire refrigerator that I bought this year was made in Mexico. It will be interesting to see which will last longer.
