I won't keep a mean animal on the property, whether it's a dog, cat, pig, rooster or whatever.

The thing is sometimes we don't know why animals do what they do. I'm generally under the notion that animals are made mean by their environment. That's not to say some can be pretty darn smart and really seem to be messin with you.

The dog is mans best friend, not a certain breed of dog.

Same here, we have had numerous roosters have been sent down the road or out back to the compost pile because they started chasing people.
Had a rooster scratch our kids within 2" of their eye and since then, a rooster chasing the kids once is done.

I think it's a good idea to have a license before you can buy a dog, background check every 4 years etc to make sure felons and domestic assault problem people can't buy a dog. Why not, a felon with a large breed vicious dog is as dangerous as a felon with a handgun if they want to be..

A good read for anyone with the courage to read it to see what men do to dogs...

Case Study: Animal Fighting - Michael Vick - Animal Legal Defense Fund

FYI - I've been around dogs that were to be put to death by the state of NC for dog fighting. Around people, they are fine, it's around other dogs that they are "programed" to go haywire.

I know first hand that you can do agression tests with people and it's different when it comes to other dogs.

And yes, every dog that ever came into our care was given an agression test.

What if someone gives you a dog?

The problem is you aren't thinking about the root cause.

The reality is ANY dog should be spayed or neutered when possible.

I've seen numerous signs for "pit bull puppies for sale" locally. The reality is people are stupid and they have no clue what they are buying. I had a cub scout tell me proudly that his family has a "pit bull" and I saw the dog, and I was blunt with him. It wasn't a pit bull. Thing is, his family lived in a trailer. Do I judge the man or the dog?

The sad reality is you don't need a license to screw and have children, and you don't need a license to have to dogs. Sometimes it works, a lot of times it doesn't.

What if someone gives you a dog?

What if someone sells a felon a gun that isn't in their name and they couldn't care less if you are going to use it in a murder or not because it's not registered to them?

Happens everyday..

Dude, I agree with you.

The reality however is that the governemnt (state or federal) won't care unless it makes the news.

What makes the news? Stories that sell because the news is in business.

FYI- anytime I sell a gun, a copy of the holders CCW is required. I double check the CCW permit vs the same state drivers license for verification.

Whenever I've "given" a dog to another person (they paid for all upfront basic medical costs such as rabies and heartworm prevention), a home inspection was done as well as a standardized checklist that everyone person had to fill out, which we kept on file. I felt more importance on KNOWING where a dog was going over a gun because a gun is an inanimate object, a dog is not.

Thing is, people hand dogs over worse than candy, and some dogs, particuarly the terrier breed, could be more dangerous than guns. Thing is, it's the two legged critters giving the 4 legged critters a bad rap.

Agreed.. If I sell a gun now a days I require an FFL transfer (not required in my state) but I require it anyway.. Someone can have a valid CCW, become a felon a year after they receive the CCW and buy a gun from someone showing them their "valid" CCW and you wouldn't know the difference and that's why an FFL transfer is important.. If the above is true they can't pass the FFL transfer..

So the process you use when selling a firearm is kind of dangerous, a matching CCW means nothing really.. If you're buyer becomes a felon in between the 4 or 5 year renewal period of their CCW they don't come and confiscate his or her CCW. Be careful and cover yourself, a $25-35 FFL transfer eliminates that possibility.

I think it's interesting that we're comparing owning these types of dogs, to owning a firearm.
