Me too brother. Me too. Pretty sure if I had to do what I didn't want to have to do, I'd have had to deal with the owner too.

I once had to confront another dog owner while walking my own dog on a leash. He thought it was OK to let his dog run free and intimidate all the other dogs and owners. I looked him in the eye and calmly told him if his dog so much as curled it's lips I would kill it with my bare hands. We never saw him again at that park. BTW... No One loves dogs more than me, and I have a very hard time with the taking of any animals life.

Happens all too often. Friend's puppy got attacked about a year ago in a dog park in Bryan/College Station. It really messed that puppy up. It did heal up eventually.

Ok, let's take pits out of the hands of owners.

What breed next?

I would respectfully argue that if you want to outlaw one "dangerous breed", you outlaw at least the top 10. Why wouldn't you?

I do find it amusing that one dog breed that I'm more afraid of than a pit is an Akita. Yet not one mention on how agressive or what kind of damage a Akita can do. That said, do I believe people should own Akita's? Yes, just like "pits" or any other breed.

I would also wonder exactly how "breed" statisitics are gathered and who is doing the gathering. Anyone who is pro or anti gun knows exactly how statistics can be used. Do you want stats on why American's think AR15's should be outlawed?

Personally, I'd be a little leary if any stats are given by the AKC myself. AKC is a lot like the NCAA IMO. Money runs everything...

One I'm most scared is a standard poodle. Was installing a fence and kept hearing a banging noise coming from the house  Heard glass break and saw a dog coming at us. Dog bit me pretty good on the arm. When I knocked the dog off me it turned and went after my coworker.

Coworker had a pair of fence pliers in his hand. He jumped back and as he did, he smacked the dog on the head when it lunged at him. Dog dropped like a sack of taters dead

Called the police and the home owner, explained to both what happened. Both arrived within minutes of each other. Homeowner swore her precious would never hurt a fly and was pretty irate about her dog being dead, and that we owed her for her dog. Cop handed her a ticket and informed her she was responsible for my doctors bills over the bite as well as the dog since it got loose and attacked us.

The officer then went and inspected the house to see how the dog got loose. Officer found four double pain windows cracked in view of us, and one broken one where the dog got out. Apparently the dog kept ramming windows till one finally broke.

I might of missed it, but did the stats you provide give the population of the breed owned? My first though is the "pit" being the breed of choice is the most popular pet for aggressive dogs, so it goes without saying the stats would be higher with that breed.

I know when I tried to find homes for some at pet shops, everyone was interested in the pit and asked if it was good for protection (first strike and the we stopped talking to them after that).

The added variable is also how the breed was determined to begin with. I've seen numerous articles where the dog was listed as a "pit", but after seeing the picture of the dog in question, I don't know how they called it a "pit" when I couldn't even see a portion of terrier in the "breed".

You fond of labs, huh?

Was it really a lab? I have no clue. Part of my point.

Is this really a golden lab?

Exactly. It's crazy what gets labeled as pit.

If it attacks it is likely called a pit or rotty whether it is or not. It's no different than the constant mislabeling of those scary black guns.

And yes, numbers owned are never mentioned. It's like saying most criminals in China are Asian.

Also pits and rotties are the most common breeds owned by scumbags that treat them like crap and want them to be aggressive. One of the best videos I've seen in the last couple years was some scumbag running from the cops who tries to sick his dog on the cops. The dog tackled the owner.

Let’s get one thing straight, pit bulls kill people or severely maim them when they attack, it happens a lot and they don’t get blamed for every dog attack that happens. This is common knowledge to most people. Are there good natured pit bulls, of course there are but let’s tell it like it is, facts are facts.. Lots of people like them for whatever reason, The problem is most people I see with them couldn’t take care of themselves never mind a pit bull. They haven’t got brains enough to keep them away from people out in public, I have had to tell people on many occasions to please keep the dogs away from me in parking lots, We have an open carry law in Maine and I use it, people notice the firearm and tend to be more careful with the leashed animals than they normally would..

I have carried concealed for many years, the last three years I open carry, I’m not going to wait for something bad to happen and wish I could have done something about, I don’t bring my Shepherd into stores, leave him barking in the car while I’m in the store, trying to protect the car from someone that parks on the side of me, people do really stupid things with animals..

My German Shepherd is awesome with people and kids. She's actually one step away in her training from being a therapy dog. Trainer has been after us to get her finished in her training. She's also great with medium and large dogs as long as they aren't aggressive to her, us or the grand kids.

She doesn't have much patience for small dogs though. Neighbors got 3 Chihuahua's and a Yorkie I nicknamed Cujo. Neighbor let's them run loose when he let's them out to go potty. Those dogs have gone after us at least twice a week for 3 years since our shepherd was a pup.

So, funny story. We were dog sitting for our daughter for a month. We had our shepherd's brother. I was kissing my wife goodnight and being playful, I gave my wife a wet slobbery raspberry. Well apparently Lennon is protective of grandma. He jumped onto our bad standing over my wife, growled and barked at me. My baby girl Gyspy was curled up on the dog bed on the other side of the room.

She took offense to Lennon growling and barking at me. My sweet little baby girl turned into a growling, snarling, black and tan missle. She launched herself onto the bed after her brother  Both dogs are highly trained, so both my wife and I gave them the stop command.

Here's the issue and funny/ not so funny part. Gypsy was going full tilt and in the middle of the bed when she put on the brakes. Being almost 80 lbs, she doesn't stop on a dime. Well she managed to bunch up all the bedding, scoop my wife up in the process and deposit her on the floor with both shepherd's on top of her :eek: Needless to say, I shared the couch with both shepherd's for the night while my lovely wife cooled off

Wow, Girl, amazing statistics. I had no idea Pits were so dangerous. I see now why they are banned completely in Toronto (a city a little bit bigger than Chicago).

Thank you.

We go back to statistics.

Take a look at what the news reports per dog bites, and I'm guessing it's about as accurate as to how they compile gun stats.

Do I treat a "pit" any different than any other strange dog that I know has the size, strenght and "teeth" to cause me great physical harm? Heck no. Do I treat any gun any different when I'm handling it or in the presense of others? Heck no.

Take someone who is anti gun and they can throw all the statistics at you on why guns should be outlawed. Do I agree that guns are used for killing and that some people should not own a gun? Heck yeah. By the same token, people will throw out stats on pit bulls as to why they shouldn't be around. I get it.
