Simple questions, maybe or just confuse everyone. Satellite internet is my only option at this moment unless some affordable cellular technology is available I dont know about or bring dialup back. My Verizon cell is terrible, wifes att is a little better, our 斗andline is cellular based and only cuts out on important calls. Who actually has residential Hughesnet and what security/video devices actually work on it? Does anyone have Ring, or other video doorbells? Any camera systems online that dont stream continuous and constantly use data or that dont have to have a dedicated computer server? I have an older video surveillance system that came with house but I cant get it online. Customer service for system said I need to open a port, Hughesnet wont open anything. I hate the stupid magnet switches on our existing home alarm, the junk magnets keep from tilting sashes in to clean widow or get screens on off. We just moved last year, only ones living on this long section of road but somehow people seem to end up at door and ring the doorbell when its only my wife and 5 year old at home and Im at my hostile work environment 55mile away and if she wasnt to go look at the video system to check the camera has to walk past the glass front door to get to room with the camera monitors. If im at home, everything is fine, nothing ever happens and I got the numbers down for the big safe and a wide variety of home defense. Wife limited to the little lockbox with the judge in it and would rather hide in bedroom and dial and argue with me 55 miles away

Have you looked into the Mobley or WTF AT&T is offering at the moment (Harman Spark?)?

I've a Mobley and get about 8 to 20Mbps.

Put a blind over the glass front door.

/edit Forget about the Spark - that is no replacement for a mobley.

I hate to buy something that will not work and sales people lie lie lie. I dont have money patience and time for junk that doesnt work like it should. I dont know what a dny dns domain thing is. Im a engineering school starving college student dropout from the 80s that became a fireman and alots changed. I have the lowest hughesnet plan after having the biggest and havent seen a difference because its awful junk. My son uses all the data in short order watching kids youtube when my wife and I try to watch somthing on tv as Im gone working as much as Im home and we dvr things we probably wont have time to ever watch.

Im not surprised with what the WTF ATT search pulled up, Nothing to do with internet unless you mean **** and people mad at their devices and services. Would take a sheet or curtain, the sidelights on door need covering too and thats not an option for my wife

My Mobley died and I swapped the sim into a ZTE Velocity. The Velocity has been more stable and reliable so far. Not sure what kind of mobile internet deal AT&T is offering these days. So far I have kept the same plan we started with.

A remote camera will let you watch the burglar break into your house. A closed gate on your road keeps him from driving up to your house in the first place.

Well - I've got some of your smaller concerns. HughesNet is my internet provider. I have no idea it they offer any security software or not - I simply don't want/need any. More on this later.

I have ATT as provider?? of cell service - when conditions are good. No land line for anything.

I'm so remote - I'll be lucky to have half a dozen visitors a year and four of the visits will be my son.

As we all know - any time you use a satellite service for anything - - it can be weather dependent. My HughesNet IP service is certainly that way. I sure as #$%^ would not rely on any security system that was as sketchy as Hughes can be or would rely on Hughes for service.

Cover the glass door with a curtain and get a big dog(that will mind the wife).

You know - I hate to say this but - maybe the rural lifestyle is not you & your wife's cup of tea. Some folks just aren't meant for the rural life.

I get the cameras thing, was going to try to keep a second hard drive in big gun safe so if they stole the video system and didnt manage to get in the safe, would have something. Its our residence not just a camp , I have 2 short driveways, house pretty close to road 250/300 feet, 65 acres with about 1400 foot street frontage and the UPS Fed Ex needs to be able to drop off packages and power poles in yard easement on my side so if I went gate, would have to be automatic $$$ so wife wouldnt have to get out open close in one of rainiest areas of country. I already reposessed the garage door remote and put it on the rtv that sits in that stall because Id come come home and door wouldnt be closed, “well i pressed the button and it was working”. I spent weeks of my precious time emailing people trying to get our old junk online so I could expand upgrade etc to find out Hughesnet doesnt support such things or “open ports“ to use that kind of system so Im willing to start from scratch but cant afford to buy multiple products that dont work. Im thinking it might be easier to invent time travel to year 2025 so I can be retired from this dysfunctional hostile work environment and be home every night with wife and son and let second amendment and my goofy dog be major element of the security system. I understand my wifes reluctance to go to door in this day of home invasions and the meth opioid epidemic all while worrying about how can I keep our 5 year old safe if she goes to door and things start to go bad and we are only people on this couple mile stretch pf road. Im not a tech savvy person, I hate buying things that dont work as advertised. I hate every gadget I buy and need support, I seem to get the call center in Pakistan. My career as firefighter has taught my that what can go wrong will, leave yourself an escape route, expect unexpected, if this goes wrong what is the next move...
The basic question stands, has anyone had any success with using video doorbells like ring, video systems and home security systems with cameras you can access online with Hughesnet.
