Hello everyone, I am on the search for some wheels that would fit my YM155d... Anyone have any wheels that would fit and are willing to part with? I know Hoye sells their Turf Tire Kit, but I am wanting to keep this under $1500 and wouldn't mind using the factory wheels or something that would be easily fabricated to fit. I have searched the site and didn't have much luck with what other wheels would fit. Any advice or any wheels for sale please let me know.

I think we have covered this one many times to little avail over the years. If it were me i would look at buying some cheap steel wheels 15" for a half ton truck. I would mount like 33" all terrain tires on the back. As for centers i would look into having a machine shop fabricate the centers based on the factory rim. Then cut the centers out of the truck rims and weld the fabbed ones in. Will this be cheaper...it should. New steel wheels can be had for $50each. But it depends upon your machine shop connections for the rest. And the tires could be had for probably just over $100 each. That leaves the fronts...

Yes I did see a thread where someone had used 15' rims and cut the center out ect. I can weld, but my welder wouldn't be able to handle a that type of thickness for the thicker center that would be needed welded. Like most people I was hoping for an easier and possibly cheaper way.

I put turfs on two Yanmars. You can do it in lots of ways, the important thing is to maintain the same rolling circumference ratio between the front and rear tires. That's only important for 4WD tractors of course, and within 4wd it's only really important for reliability of the 4wd components if you also have a loader.

If yours is 4WD and especially with a loader then that front-to-back tire ratio is the only thing that matters, and the good news is that it's not difficult at all. Don't let doing it scare you off; lots of us have done it. Getting the mechanical concept right in my mind turned out to be harder than the mechanical work.
But if you ignore ther ratio you might end up kicking yourself for not buying Hoye's turf kit.... or you might just get lucky and get the ratio close enough. Your call....

Thanks rScotty. My 155d is 4wd. And actually Hoye does sell the factory size wheels besides the turf tire kit. They are a little more than I want to pay, but they new. I figure if I purchase those i could save around $500 vs the turf tire kit. I would lose a little tire width with the factory size wheels and a 265/75r16 truck tire, but it would only be 2" on the rear, not sure what the difference would be for the fronts. I don't think that much will make a huge difference in pavement contact for the winter. Any thoughts on Hoye turf tire kit vs factory size wheels with truck tire rear and front? I doubt I would see a real noticeable difference.

Our factory size rear wheel (a little wider than factory but still allows you to use the factory tire) and our turf kit rear wheel are actually the same wheel on that model- if that matters at all. The main difference would be the fronts where they are appx double the width.

Curious to what is all wrong with the ones you have now. Dry Rotted no tread etc. The reason I asked is I used a tire reliner. Works like champ and Cheap. I had splitting at the lugs from dry rot. You could see the Inner Tube!! Easy to install and now my Org. rears with are good to go for Yrs....

I think he wants turfs for better ground contact for plowing snow in the winter.

If that is the case then reline them and fill them with foam. The extra weight would make a big difference and again Cheap. Depending on the tire condition. Just putting out there all his options until he can find something..

I plowed snow with my little YM165D Yanmar for 15 or 20 years - same exact machine as the YM155D except for color. Plowing and using the loader to move snow often took half the day. But I was stubborn and besides I liked that little tractor. Plus it was what we had. In the course of a decade we went from ag tires to turfs on it. The reason for the change was more for stability than for traction. The ag tires have more traction in the snow; the turfs have more traction on dry ground.

The only way to get usable traction with these little light tractors in the snow is to use chains. If it's traction in the snow you are after, put your time into chains, not tires and wheels. If it's side hill stability then use wide turfs. If you use a loader, ag tires reduce the steering effort but tear up the grass.

The way I switched tire types from ag to turf was with Yanmar parts straight out of the parts catalogue, and that required changing to different wheels as well. Yanmar's wheels for turf tires are more than twice as wide (both front and rear) as the original ag tire wheels, and fit a smaller but wider wheel. I found a used set at the dealer.
