The fact that the oem bilge pumps were rated at 200GPM is scary enough to stay off the **** things...actually anything that would leak that fast has no right to be called a boat...!

Why does everyone assume that if it'a built to "military standards" that is just HAS to be the best out there and that the military will spare no expense in having the best?

Very true on many, many things. Certainly not on major military equipment, but the reinvent-the-wheel (just so some contractor gets a pork contract) items can regularly be of lesser quality.

Perhaps I should have said the boat in Arkansas that sank was a WWII era boat that had been modified from it's original specs by the owner that didn't have an engineering degree, had it's 200+GPM mechanical bilge pump removed and replaced with 20GMP electric pumps, and not mentioned that the specs were modified from how the military ordered it, just that they were modified. Would that suit you better? :rolleyes:

My point being that WW2 duck boats could of been manufacturerd like ***** and just because they were produced for the military doesn't mean they would be considered safe for civilian use. Make sense? ;)

I would guess in general because something is made for civilian use and the expectations are people have choices on what they are going to spend their money on, the product is actually made better for civilian use than it would be for military use.

I always get a kick out of guys who think mil spec AR-15's are so great just for the fact that they're "mil spec".

Notice that the Miltary is now having so many issues with their newly aquired sidearm? Guess who got the job? The lowest bidder.

Full auto is a waste unless your using suppressive fire, given that, between a 5.56 and 7.62x51, I'd take the larger caliber in a 16" barrel any day of the week (I was issued a 7.62x51, and couldn't hit ANYTHING after the second round in auto due to barrel rise). One reason why the 6.8 or 6.5 debate keeps coming up IMO. I'd rather shoot a 7.62x51 but when it comes to lugging the ammo, there is something to be said for lighter ammo.

The pressure to stay on schedule and arrive on time is the root cause of many aviation disasters. The worst offenders are the small charter airlines where the owner is also the chief pilot.

Out of all the aviation disasters that have occurred, I'd be curious to see some statistics to validate your opinion.

55% Pilot Error
17% Aircraft Mechanical Error
13% Weather
8% Sabotage
7% Other (ATC, Ground Handling, Unknown)

Examples of Pilot Error include loss of Control in Flight and CFIT (Controlled Flight Into Terrain)

I played with an Armalite AR 10 in 308. I think I like the 223 better. It's a much handier weapon.

Who knows truth from fiction, but some claimed the KAL 007 pilot was flying over Soviet airspace to save time and fuel which would net a bonus. "Apparently" this was not uncommon.

Maybe still a record, the worst accident ever (in Tenarife (sp?) was at least partially caused by an impatient pilot.
