Well, I have to compliment their queuing system for being exact on the wait time - precisely the 50 minutes predicted...talked with a very nice gentleman, Nathan, who could not make an appointment for me...because name changes/corrections can only be done as a "walk in"...no appointments...tried to amend my reason for the appointment to wanting to discuss possible initiation of SS benefits, and was told the same thing...walk in only. Then I asked, "Nathan, I am 'respectfully and formally' requesting that you schedule an appointment for me, please." ...sorry, nope. Yep, da gubbamint.

Well, at least tomorrow, if I go, it will be not be the first or the end of the month, and it will be sleeting, raining, and 35 degrees...maybe will keep the crowds down.

wow. I got through to the next level of the automated attendant phone system...said they would have someone to help soon...then recording said estimated wait time 50 minutes.

I just went through SS phone system also because my mother got 2 letters dated the same day changing her SS benefits to different amounts. Trying to find out what is going on. Wait time was 55 minutes for next operator. I give up, she get what she gets they win.

Most wheat straw we have here comes from wheat that is used for the cereal companies. Definitely not organic. When it's time to harvest there is not one spot of green in the field.

Yep Ron, even organic whole oats have glyphosate in them now. Looks like I have to change to 365 Organic Old-Fashion Rolled Oats from Whole Food.

Good Morning!!!! 47F @ 10:30AM here in Chico, CA. Partly cloudy. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High 68F. Winds light and variable.

Thanks for the heads up on the bus event, Ron. That's exactly the kind of thing I hope to attend one day, once the interior is finished and all the bugs are worked out with the drive train.:thumbsup:

At least we're not having to cope with snow here, yet. We do get it in the upper elevations effected by the fire. Firefighters are making good progress on the containment lines to the south of the house, so it's only a matter of time before the evacuation orders are lifted. I just have to stay busy in the mean time. Picked up two five gallon gasoline jugs this morning that I'll fill on the way out of town on the return, the power will very likely not be on when I get there. I'll snag a couple of 5 gallon propane bottles as well. Plenty seem to be available, as almost all of the homes that were impacted in the evacuation areas were completely destroyed; only a small number were damaged, an all-or-nothing kind of thing.

Also gonna try to get to the Oroville post office to pick up mail. I was given the wrong street address for two orders I placed earlier, one was returned, and I hope the shipper can straighten out the other one.:confused2:

Also starting to work on a list of food items that don't need refrigeration for preservation after the return. Authorities are urging people to discard all food in the house, but I have a LOT of canned goods and I have no intention to discard them. Bad advise like that makes people distrust the very advise that is supposed to help them.

Got a call back from a staffer from my state representative apologizing that nothing can be done with my suggestion to make satellite imagery available to home and business owners. Figures.

Good to hear that you came out of this ok. I’m sure the next few weeks will be a pain, it will take awhile to put all the infrastructure back in place.

One of our welding supervisors at work had a house fire a few weeks ago. New fireplace (poorly installed, obviously) started a fire in the attic. He lost most of his roof to fire, and about half the house to water and smoke damage. The firefighters told him the same thing ... throw out everything, even the beer. He laughed about that part, and said pretty much the same as you regarding his canned goods. That part of the house didn't heat up, and the beer was in a fridge in the garage, still cold when he opened it.

I'm seeing a lot of PBJs and ramen noodles in your near future. You'll be eating like a touring musician. :licking:

16ｰF and clear skies this morning, going up to 37ｰ today. Forecast here is for big snow tonight. We seem to be in the 4-8" band, but the voice on the radio this morning said some areas in Illinois could get as much as 10". Either way, that's a lot of snow for November. We'll see if this one pans out.

Had a nice long conversation (albeit via text messaging) last night with my best friend. We haven't really chatted much lately, so it was kind of nice catching up on things. He is playing in a new Queensryche tribute band and their first show is this Saturday at a local concert venue. Meeting up with him this evening after work to get some comp tickets from him. He and the other guitar player in this band were the two guitar players in the acoustic trio I played with for about four years. In fact, there are three bands playing Saturday night, and I know or have played with pretty much all of the musicians. It's an interesting change. Back in the '80s, everyone was secret and protective about their bands and contacts. These days, everyone helps everyone else get gigs and everybody fills in with everyone else all the time. It's a giant musician community, like it always should have been. When I was playing with the Hagar tribute band, probably 25% of the crowd at our shows were other area musicians. Everyone goes out and supports everyone else.

L4N, we had to replace 25' of the drain from the kitchen sink a few years ago. Same thing, almost completely clogged with grease. My Wife could never convince her Grandmother to stop pouring grease in the sink. There was one section that was so packed it felt like it was as heavy as steel pipe instead of pvc.

Quick summary:
Quaker Old Fashioned Oats tested at 1100 ppm (in 3/4 cup or 60 grams). The test agency said the maximum daily dose should not be over 160 ppb. I'll change to an oatmeal that has none detected, then I won't have to debate how much is too much.

Kind of like the American heart association. They kept lowering the amount of dietary cholesterol one should consume and now they are not even giving a value they just say the lower the better, of course zero is optimum for those with heart disease.

31. Raining. Currently 1/10-1/8 inch of ice on everything. Already having power flickering. Be surprised if it makes the night. Went and gassed up generator and 20 gallons for the house. Have about 250 gallons diesel in chicken coops fuel tank. 50 in back of my truck and probably another 100 or so in tractor tank. Power company already reporting 4,000 outages.
