Battery

   / Battery #21
I have a drop cord at each tractor to power a small battery conditioner on all of my farm vehicles. I seldom have any issue with a battery and they crank over fast for good starts when cold.

Agree with this, regardless of battery brand. I try to keep a small, "smart" battery maintainer plugged into each of my tractors when not in use for more than a few days. Also, 24/7 on the small "motocross-style" battery of and electric-start standby generator. With today's solid-state circuitry, they're pretty fail-safe.

For the last five years, I've been using the so-called "deluxe" model from HF. Never a slow start or a failure of a charger or battery. 12 Volt Deluxe Battery Maintainer and Float Charger Before that I used the more basic model with only the alligator-style clamps. They're fine as well, but being able to permanently mount a connector lead to the battery terminals and then just plug in is real convenient.

I don't specifically know this model but I do know the dread I felt when I looked into removing the battery on my L4300. It looked like I would have to dismantle the tractor and I started blaming Kubota.

Well, I looked at an exploded parts list form Messick's first and then searched the Internet and YouTube for solutions from others to this problem. Turns out the battery removal was way easier than expected by removing a small bracket. Kubota had already thought it through and solved the problem. What I thought was a two hour job was a 15 minute one mostly because I had to go back for the beer.

Bottom line, keep searching on line for the actual experiences of other and see if there isn't an easier way already out there. Can't hurt.

I get my battery from western auto, they had the same size battery, an it was a reverse polarity on the battery.

I had no idea that Western Auto was still round.
They have been gone for my area for 40+ years.

so what did you take off the bracket for bottom guard shield and headlight bracket?

Assuming you mean on my L4300, I can't remember exactly but I think it was the bracket that runs from the top to the bottom behind the grille. I may have only just loosened things up to gain a little more access and not removed anything. You have to look at the installation, look at the parts picture and then search the internet for others that did it. We have different models but the thinking is the same. Hope this helps.

EDIT--Am remembering more. I don't think it was the bracket, I think it was part of the grill or grill shell. Again, mine is different from yours.

I have never had an issue trickle charging batteries a couple of times over winter. In fact, I'm not so sure that charging them continuously, no matter the gentle charge, won't do more harm than good. But that's just a thought. If you have equipment that will kill a battery over time, it's a different matter.
