I have been having starting issues with my old, new to me, 1300D. I decided to start with the injectors. When I went to remove them, the retaining bolts were finger tight at best. The injectors literally lifted out with no effort and even wiggled before I removed the retainers. Obviously someone had been in there before me. I did not see any new seals etc. The injectors are covered in carbon. My question is, is it possible that the loose injectors were my problem all along? Would love to hear your opinions.

Clearly a major cause of hard starting if there's a massive leak of compression! Yes they should be tight.

But there must be some reason why the prior owner loosened them, so there could be additional issues.

I am surprised it would start at all with loose injectors. That's a very odd, (as in "unheard-of"), complaint on these forums.

I have to agree. I have always seen the opposite, with the injectors being stuck. I was dumbfounded when they fell out in my hand. Going to order the fiber washers Monday, check the spray pattern and hopefully re-assemble. It was getting harder and harder to start until it just wouldn't anymore.

That would most def. be a source of a hard to no start..
The last one I worked on, I had to buy the inj. removal tool from Hoye..
NO WAY that inj. was coming out w/o the tool..

When I bought my 2210d, it was a referb from Fredricks, it would start easily and run great, but I had a fuel leak coming from one of the injectors. I messed with that thing for days trying to figure out where the leak was coming from. Called Fredricks and they sent me a new injector. I heard stories about how hard it was to remove these injectors so I ordered the injector removal tool from Hoye. When I went to take out the old injector it came out with my fingers!! It did have some carbon build up but nothing major. I was surprised it came out that easy and didn't need the removal tool. Like I said my 2210d ran fine just had a fuel leak, so I can't say for sure if that is why your 1300 is having issues starting, but that still could be why?? I recently purchased a 155d the US version of the 1300. Mine does have a little trouble starting if its cold, but I just put a block heater in and it starts fine now.

When I removed mine recently, it took very little effort to remove them. Is it possible that that they shook loose? I know maintenance manual says to check all fasteners I believe every 100 hrs. Loose injectors would more than likely cause a loss of combustion pressure. I.e. a hard start. I'd flip them over and check spray pattern

Before they had that removal tool guys used to just loosen the nuts, bump the starter and they would pop free.:)

I am pretty sure they made the tool cause I am almost positive I read here that some people have tried that and they didn't budge an inch. I am thinking @California tried that on his and they didn't budge. I could be wrong on the peroom though.

But you are correct, that is a trick and many people have done that.
