'Allot' is a word. 'Alot' is not.

My wife, a school teacher, always is after me for using "good" when I should use "well". This summer she asked me why the sprinklers were not running and I explained that the "good" was dry.

That's all well and good.

If they were different, how could the phrase be redundant?

Since Oklahoma has changed its liquor laws to allow grocery stores to sell strong beer and wine, seems like the clerks all are asking for my identification, (Ya' got any I.D.?") even though I have grand kids over 21. Kinda irritating, but I understand senseless bureaucracy.

I have always been a bit irritated when folks use "Idear" or "I Dee" for "Idea". I recall that a lot of my grandfather's generation used some funny terms like "hain't" for "ain't", "fit" for "fought" and occasionally "I Dee" for idea. Last time I went to the store and bought beer, the young lady said "Ya got any I.D.?" I said "Do I got any I Dee about whut?". She said "a photo I.D.". So I showed her my driver's license. The sacker was cracking up.

It irks me when reading something written by someone that should know better and they use the term "knots per hour"...arrrrr!

Unrelated but see this all the time and am curious...what is the word "whelp" supposed to mean when someone starts an exclamation following an action or conclusion of something else...? is it supposed to mean "Well" or "Oh Well" ??
